Ein Friedensgruß
A Zambian home is never calm
Man sagt, wenn man die Zeit genießt, vergeht sie
schneller. Das kann ich definitiv bestätigen, denn
die letzten 88 Tage und somit fast drei Monate sind
rasend schnell vergangen. Ich habe mich gut hier
eingelebt und langsam routiniert sich mein Alltag.
Ich habe angefangen im Krankenhaus zu arbeiten und
bin der Jugendgruppe sowie dem Chor meiner Kirche
beigetreten. Was ich dort für Erfahrungen gesammelt
habe, erfahrt ihr nun im Folgenden.
Ich arbeite seit nun einem Monat von montags bis
freitags im Monze Mission Hospital und finde es

agree cause the last 88 days and nearly three months
fleiw very fast. I have immerse myself quickly and
good so that everything turns to daily routine now.
I started working in a hospital, joined the Youths and
quire from church. In the following I will tell u what
Inhaber experienced there.
Since nearly one month I‘m working Mondays till
Fridays in the Monze Mission Hospital and I enjoy
working there so much that I‘m sure that I will stay
there for the complete year.
Within the frame of an internship I got
the permission to work in every of the 25
Departments, from Children Ward to the
Theatre.
How long I work in which department I can
decide by myself.
First I had a short guidance where someone
showed me all the departments.
Alone there I got many new impressions.
The Mission Hospital has around 230 workers,
including 40 Doctors and has capacities for
around 330 patients.
The Hospital has many yellow buildings, which
are all connected like a labyrinth. From inside it
looks a little bit like German Hospitals in the 50s.
They are big halls with up to 50 Beds for the
Patients. Sometimes the beds aren‘t enough so
that some have to sleep at the floor.
Often privacy is just made through cloth which
are hanging from the ceiling.
First u started working in High Cost Department
where staff and their relatives are treated which
are insurances by the companies where there are
working. Less people have this insurance so that
we also had less work, in comparison to the other
departments. Nevertheless I learned medical
basics and made the patients files. I extra started
first at High Cost, cause I have known that I have
the possibility to learn things calmly there, so
that It will be easier in the other departments
where more work has to be done.
Especially at Female Ward was a lot to do. Now
bisher so klasse, dass ich jetzt schon sagen kann, dass
ich sicherlich während meines ganzen Aufenthaltes
dort arbeiten werde.
Im Rahmen eines Praktikums habe ich die Erlaubnis
bekommen, in jeder der 25 Abteilungen arbeiten zu
dürfen, von der Kinderstation bis zum OP.
Wie lange ich auf welcher Station arbeite, steht mir
vollkommen frei.
Zuerst gab es eine kleine Führung, bei der mir alle
Stationen gezeigt wurden.
Allein bei der Führung habe ich viele neue Eindrücke
sammeln können.
Das Mission Hospital umfasst ein Personal von ca. 230
Personen, inklusive 40 Ärzten und hat Kapazitäten für
ca. 330 Patienten.
Das Krankenhaus besteht aus mehreren einstöckigen
gelben Gebäuden, die ein bisschen wie ein Labyrinth
ineinander übergehen. Von innen sehen die meisten
Gebäude aus, als würden sie aus den 50er Jahren
stammen.
Die Männer-, Frauen- und Kinder-Station erinnert
mich ein wenig an die Krankenstation von Hogwards.
Große Säle mit bis zu 50 Metallbetten. Manchmal sind
die Patienten aufgrund von Platzmangel gezwungen
auf dem Boden zu schlafen. Privatsphäre wird meist
nur durch Stofffetzen geschaffen, die vereinzelt von
der Decke herunterhängen.
Zuerst habe ich im High Cost Department gearbeitet.
Dort werden Angestellte und ihre Angehörigen
untersucht und behandelt, die eine betriebliche
Krankenversicherung haben oder extra zahlen.
Da sich dies in der Regel jedoch nur wenige leisten
können, gab es dort im Vergleich zu den anderen
Stationen nicht so viel zu tun.
Dort habe ich jedoch einige medizinische Grundlagen
lernen können und Akten für die Patienten angelegt.
Mir schien das High Cost Department als besonders
gut geeignete erste Station, da ich die dort erworbenen
Grundlagen und Fähigkeiten direkt in der nächsten
Station anwenden konnte, wo sich die Arbeit als
stressiger herausgestellt hat. Vor allem auf der
Frauenstation, gab es immer viel zu tun.
Viele Patienten haben mich am Anfang für eine

At the beginning many patients were thinking that
I‘m a doctor, so that I first had to explain that I just
graduated from school.
Less doctors are specialists like I know it from
Germany, that‘s why doctors here know a lot of all
areas.
Before we help and treat the patients we (the Nurses
and Students) have to clean everything.
In reference to medicine most people get Saline,
Iodine and Paracetamol. I learned that most patients
use traditional healthcare at home. For example one
patient was bitten by a Cobra and was treated at home
with leaves which drag out the patients, before he
came to the hospital. I heard people saying that he
survived because of that. I‘m not sure if it‘s true or not
but nevertheless he survived what‘s great!
I‘m not sure on which station I will Station I will work
next, but I‘m sure no matter in which department I
work, I will also enjoy being there!
At the weekends I go to the quire at Saturday‘s, where
I will be taught to sing soprano. Sundays after church I
visit the Youths meetings, where we discuss with each
other, share experiences and enjoy time together.
Once a Youth told me that people here call hard
working or strong persons ‚German Machines‘. It‘s
really interesting to interact with each other.
