Welcome to Austria – strong in museum skills
a glance backwards is a view forward
Why a visit with WA to a museum provides a view into the future? Visiting museums is always a look back in time. When you
attend one of the guided tours of WA, like the guided visit to the exhibitions “In Her Majesty´s Hands. Medals of Maria Theresia”,
in the KHM or “City of Women - Female Artists in Vienna from 1900 to 1938” in Belvedere, like we did, you gain not only
a pleasant walk with interested and interesting people, but also new impressions. Museum’s impressions would jump back
to our minds in creative moments; they might give an idea of solutions in the past that actually influence the future. It is not
just general education to be acquired with a visit to a Viennese Museum with WA, but also provides “jewels” for “tomorrow”.
These thoughts appeared to us on the roof of the Museum of Natural History, capturing a wonderful view over the City of
Vienna.
Precious stones
worth a view
Welcome to Austria (WA) at the Albertina, March 2019
Liechtenstein´s Princely
Collections
The Princely Collections contain major works of European
art spanning five centuries and are among the most important
private collections in the world. During the guided
tour through the exhibition, WA members could admire an
impressive variety of precious paintings from Peter Paul
Rubens to Hans Makart. Rubens, well known for his female
paintings, depicted the ideal beauty in his times in his wonderful
works (see photo). We all were impressed not only
by the enormous work of the artist, but also by the natural
simplicity of the models.
Clarissa Mayer-Heinisch coordinated with the scientist Dr.
Stefanie Jovanovic-Kruspel and the director of the Department
for Zoology Dr. Mag. Martin Löbl a specially guided
visit for WA members through the archives and hidden
places of the Museum of Natural History, on its roof. During
the visit we could also admire the impressive and precious
stone bouquet, which was given as a present to Emperor
Franz Stephan von Lothringen by his wife, her Majesty Maria
Theresia: a piece of wonderful handcraft of former times. Not
only precious stones, butterflies, bugs in brilliant colours,
paintings, sculptures where on the WA program, also the
cupola in the main entrance was catching our eyes.
Rudolf von Alt
“Rudolf von Alt. Watercolors from the Princely Collections of
Liechtenstein“ was an exhibition at the Albertina presenting
Viennese Watercolors from the Biedermeier era to Realism.
Almost 100 of watercolour masterpieces point to the vast
knowledge underlying the Princely Collection passion, while
providing a commensurately authoritative overview of the
watercolour artistry of Rudolf von Alt and his time.
