When I was 7 years old my father aroused my interest in the small,
lovable ship miniatures on the WIKING scale.
Since that time, these ship miniatures accompany me. When starting
to work for the the well-known Berlin model dealer „Flug Bufe (Flight
Bufe)“ these ship miniatures became a lifelong fascination from
which numerous national and international friendships developed.
This passion became my vocation.
I opened my own shop in 1991 in Berlin-Schöneberg, Hauptstrasse
under the name „Welt der Schiffsminiaturen (World of shipping
miniatures)“. After only three years, the first own model series was
created under the name „Optatus“. The first model in this series, the
French armoured ship „Solférino“, which was launched as the second
and last ship of the Magenta class on June 24, 1861, became my
trademark and still adorns my website and now also my model ship
catalogue.
You can now look forward to one of the most comprehensive
documentation, in which more than 190 producers with over 20,000
miniatures are presented.
The prices quoted are to be understood as a guideline, which is
largely based on the retailer’s original price. Regionally and internationally,
as well as at auctions, prices can differ significantly.
For models that are no longer available or were offered as exchange
series, I have given the prices as an orientation based on my
experience.
Finally, I would like to thank all the producers and dealers who
supported me with models and photos. Special thanks go to Albatros,
Rhenania, Galerie Maritim, Wiedling models, my wife Martina,
who has supported me for years with the documentation, and
Sven Jungnickel, who was enthusiastic about my idea and who now
makes this vision a reality.

Diese neue Serie eines deutschen Kleinserienherstellers ist seit 2018
erhältlich. Die Urmodelle sind in klassischer Handarbeit entstanden
und die Modelle werden in Metall gefertigt. Einige der angebotenen
Varianten sind im Handumbau entstanden und daher relativ selten.
Auf Wunsch werden die Modelle vom Hersteller auch als individuelles
Kleindiorama in einer Vitrine oder als Rohling geliefert.

Made in Germany/Deutschland
This new series of a small german manufacturer is available since
2018. The original models were created in classic handcraft
and the models are made in metal. Some of the offered variants
are hand made and therefore relatively rare.
On request, the models are also supplied by the manufacturer
as an individual small diorama in a showcase or as a blank.

AMA
As a model maker, as a dealer, producer and especially as a collector,
I am fascinated by this world of small ship miniatures. Numerous lists
from different manufacturers, the famous „guide“ of my esteemed
colleague Peter Wiedling – whom I would like to thank for the support
of the projects idea and for his forward introduction – and the first
own records formed the basis for the vision of our own collector’s
catalogue. In contrast to the sales aids of the dealers, this should
be a comprehensive documentary and visual short description of
all actually published ship miniatures. The role model for me was
the stamp catalogue, which for years has become an indispensable
reference book for passionate stamp collectors.
I am looking forward to the ongoing support of manufacturers,
collectors and dealers providing me with information, models and
pictures for the upcoming volumes.

With the repositioning of my ship model sales and the start of my
online trading at www.schiffmini.de, increasing digitalization offered
me the unique opportunity to realize this idea. All available ship
miniatures as well as the numerous second-hand models, which
often included rarities and unique pieces, were photographed and
documented for online sales. Slowly, my internet portal became an
indispensable source of information for ship lovers and buyers.
Here the collector also got an indication of the value of his ship
miniature collection.
With the first volume of our multi-volume, coloured catalogue
for 1:1250 model ship collectors, my dream has now come true:
a catalogue with coloured illustrations for browsing. It shows all the
lovable ship miniatures that for many are precious and have become
to an important companian.
