Mehr als DisneylanD für reiche More than just DisneylanD
for the Wealthy
allzeit beliebte Thema Wetter.
Wirtschaft/Recht/Kultur“ an.
März in Dubai
Once again beautiful sunshine reigns in the land of tomorrow after the heavy rains and low
temperatures of January and February. Forgotten are the cold nights in the desert state, the school
closings due to floods and the cold epidemic that raged through the populace.
Residents learn how to deal with it and the local nationals love these short winters. Many
Germans choose to live and work here because of the promise of 365 days of sunshine. They are
amazed, often even appalled, when the temperatures dip below 20 degrees C. Yet the German
tourists cannot be scared off; they sit around the pool in short pants while the locals shiver in
heavy coats and long-johns. This just proves how different our temperature perception is.
These differences in the way we think and feel reach into other areas besides the ever-popular
center of conversation: talking about the weather. Those who come here without prior knowledge
of the local legal system, economic particularities and cultural differences, trying to fulfill their
aspirations of a dream career in the United Arab Emirates, should bring an extra measure of good
luck. It is often difficult to receive objective and sound advice about the UAE prior to the big move,
or even after arriving here. On my travels I have met many so-called “Trainers” or “Coaches” who
think they qualify as Dubai-Specialists, just because they have seen the Burj Al-Arab twice from
the outside. They think all it takes is a decorative photo, maybe even with a camel on the beach, as
proof and they are the ultimate Middle East experts.
After receiving numerous requests from the fast growing German community, we now offer the
first ever “Discover UAE – Business/Law/Culture” workshop together with our partners, the Abu
Dhabi law firm of Hadler & Partner, the German Embassy Abu Dhabi and the German consulate
general. We aim to answer basic fundamental questions on an economic, legal and cultural level
as well as to offer great insight into the social life in the UAE. More information on this event on
March 9 th in Abu Dhabi and March 16 th in Dubai can be found in this issue or on our website at:
