Research Activities
BaCaTeC supports project-centered interconnections and collaborations among established researchers, postdoctoral scholars and
(since 2003) graduate students working in the fields of research listed above. Project proposals which present new opportunities for
long-term collaboration between Bavarian and Californian institutions are eligible for financial support. A modified version of this
funding strand for projects in the field of AI/digitalization, in line with BaCaTeC’s remit to advance the Bavarian Hightech Agenda,
omits the requirement for the project to represent a new opportunity, and accepts applications from established collaborative endeavors.
We also support institutional interactions between businesses and universities (“Joined Public-Private Proposals” – businesses
should supply at least 50% of the funding).
The grant funding is intended to cover startup costs such as travel expenses and accommodation for projects whose core funding
has already been secured from another source. Grants are capped at € 10,000 per project. Deadlines for the submission of proposals
are April 15 and October 15 of each year. Decisions will be announced within two months. Applications, limited to two pages of
A4, may be submitted by email to info@bacatec.org (preferred submission format), or by letter or fax. The application form is available

Activities for the Next Research Generation
Each year BaCaTeC provides funds for a summer school for graduate and undergraduate students. BaCaTeC covers travel and accommodation
expenses for speakers and stipends to enable students to attend. Host universities and institutions are expected to
contribute to the cost of the summer school.
We accept proposals, to include the topic, estimated cost, and preliminary schedule for the summer school, until October 15 of the
year prior to that for which the summer school is envisaged. Please submit your application – preferably by email – using the application
form available at www.bacatec.org.
Follow-on Funding
Projects funded by BaCaTeC and concluded with a high degree of success may be eligible for follow-on funding to facilitate their
expansion and their attainment of more extensive third-party funding from other sources. Funding proposals should demonstrate
specific plans and may not exceed a maximum amount of € 20,000. The limitation of grants to travel and similar expenses no longer
applies to follow-on funding.
