Gertelbach Wasserfalls and

Windeck Castle

The Bühl-Bühlertal holiday region combines

culture and pristine nature to create amazing

experiences for the whole family. The wildly

romantic Gertelbach waterfalls features stately

cascades and impressive cliffs passing over 330

meters, enabling visitors to experience nature

up close and cool off on hot days. Along the

9km Gertelbach-Rundweg trail, the restaurant

Waldgasthaus Kohlbergwiese and its playground

make a great rest stop. High over Bühl we find

the ruins of Burg Windeck, whose tower offers a

fantastic view of the Rhine Valley. The adventure

playground and forest experience trail with its

tree house are especially popular among children.

The Black Forest

Original, rich in contrasts, relaxing challenging – meadows,

forests, mountains, farm estates, traditional dress,

and cherry cake: The Black

Forest is a one-of-a-kind world, full of alterations from

sun-bathed wine hills and shaded woods to river landscapes,

high moors, steep ravines, and sweeping valleys.

321 small cities, wine-growing towns and timber frame

villages are great for discovering and experiencing the

Black Forest. There is a reason why this diverse and

spacious holiday destination in the tri-country region

with Switzerland and France is considered “Germany’s

most beautiful destination for bon-vivants.”

Clear heights, deep ravines, broad planes

Featuring more than 70 mountains over 1000m, there

are majestic hikes in the summer with far-reaching

views and plenty of snow in the winter for any winter

activities you can think of. There are nearly 24,000 kilometers

of marked hiking trails throughout the region.

Long-distance trails, regional hiking circuits, thematic

trails, and bon-vivant circuits make it easy to find “happiness

on foot”.

Those who prefer to cycle will find more than 8000

kilometers of mountain biking trails and countless biking

paths for stress-free excursions.

Germany’s largest destination for bon-vivants

Actually, the culinary experiences themselves are reason

enough to vacation in the Black Forest. No region in

Germany boasts more gastronomic stars and awards.

Nearly 400 restaurants and chefs at 321 sites in the

Black Forest receive prizes from the large gourmet and

gastronomy guides year after year.

Ideal for families

Whether a farm estate, family-friendly holiday flats or

at family hotels - parents and children alike are in good

hands in the Black Forest. Adventure and experience

out in nature can be found in rustic woods, climbing

gardens, swimming lakes, adventure trails, and stroller-friendly

hiking paths. The region’s recreational,

adventure, and family parks will win over even hard-toplease

youngsters.

Environment friendly and affordable

It would be difficult to find another region that unites

affordability and pure enjoyment like this. Moreover,

arrival and departure are made easy thanks to the rail

connections to and from all over Germany and many

other European countries. The KONUS-Gästekarte provides

for mobility in the region and is available from

around 11,000 hosts at some 150 holiday destinations.

Holders receive unlimited free rides on local buses and

trains throughout the entire holiday region – and the

card is valid for the full duration of your stay in Germany’s

most beautiful destination for bon vivants.

Unique cultural worlds

Simply hearing their names brings many eyes aglow:

Vitra-Design-Museum in Weil, Museum Frieder Burda

Baden-Baden, Messmer Foundation Riegel, Zentrum für

Kunst und Medientechnologie Karlsruhe, and the Duravit

Design Center in Hornberg – in addition to its scenic

diversity, this holiday region scores points with its

unique cultural highlights. Testimonies of time exhibited

in modern spaces: Uhrenmuseum in Furtwangen,

Badisches Landesmuseum Karlsruhe, Augustinermuseum

Freiburg, Erfinderzeiten Schramberg, Deutsches

Tagebucharchiv Emmendingen, Hans-Thoma-Kunstmuseum

Bernau, Schmuckwelten Pforzheim - not to

mention the many museums with exhibitions on local

history, mining, and traditional dress.

Amazing architecture

Idyllic farm estates with hipped roofs, wooden shingles,

and flower ornamentation are dotted throughout

the Black Forest. Added to this come accents of modern

architecture - and not just in the cities: Vineyards in

Baden wine country, new hotels and expansions on

high grounds, and even the extensions made to Black

Forest farms leave lasting impressions in visitors due to

their aesthetics, use of local materials, and successful

integration with their surroundings to illustrate how

traditionalism and modernism are so skillfully aligned

in the Black Forest.
