CeWOTec gGmbH is successfully developing the traditional field of tribologicalmechanical<br />
surface refinement technology<br />
CeWOTec gGmbH Chemnitzer Werkstoff- und Oberflächentechnik<br />
is the successor to the Institut für Physikalische<br />
und Mechanische Technologien (IPMT) Chemnitz. It<br />
has been a scientifically independent entity since May 2003<br />
and legally independent since January 2005. It was previously<br />
a branch of the GFE – Gesellschaft für Fertigungstechnik<br />
und Entwicklung e.V. Schmalkalden, which itself<br />
split from the Forschungszentrum der Werkzeugindustrie in<br />
1990/92.<br />
Having remained faithful to its traditional field – tribological-mechanical<br />
surface finishing – for several years,<br />
CeWOTec is both a non-profit research institution and a<br />
service provider for industry in one. Its four divisions,<br />
n Thin Film Technology,<br />
n Arc Welding Technology,<br />
n Heat Treatment and<br />
n Materials Testing<br />
provide a broad range of services, primarily in the form of<br />
applied contract research and development, consultancy<br />
and servicing, and have a wide variety of surface coatings<br />
and refinement processes at their disposal.<br />
The company's scientific and business activities are generally<br />
focused on innovation and development, using cutting-edge<br />
surface coating, edge treatment and analysis<br />
technologies and preparing them for practical applications<br />
to reduce the cost of materials, energy and production by<br />
minimizing<br />
n wear,<br />
n friction,<br />
n adhesion and<br />
n corrosion<br />
in tools and components of all kinds and a wide range of<br />
applications.<br />
Furthermore, its training schemes provide students in regional<br />
universities and technical colleges with regular opportunities<br />
to spend several months with the company on apprenticeships<br />
in the field of surface technology, culminating<br />
in a final paper.<br />
CeWOTec is a member of the<br />

and has research and development partnerships with other<br />

IWS Dresden, the department of Mechanical Engineering<br />
at the Chemnitz University of Technology, SLV Halle GmbH).<br />
The majority of CeWOTec's industrial customers are manufacturers<br />
and users of tools, wearing components and machines<br />
from a variety of industrial sectors, suppliers for the<br />
automotive industry and companies and institutions that<br />
are active in the field of surface engineering, both in the<br />
West Saxony/ Eastern Thuringia region and increasingly<br />
elsewhere in Germany and Europe.<br />
CeWOTec's comprehensive range of small to medium size<br />
technical equipment and machinery covers all of the main<br />
brands, giving it a considerable level of expertise in complex<br />
research and development projects, industrial development<br />
contracts for tribological-mechanical issues and<br />
high-quality, technologically optimized surface coatings, arc<br />
