südafrika liegt an der südlichen spitze des afrikanischen Kontinents. an seiner
2.500 Kilometer lange Küstenlinie brechen sich die Wellen zweier ozeane was
das Land zu einem beliebten reiseziel für Wassersportler macht. auf einer fläche,
die ungefähr 3,5 Mal größer als deutschland ist, leben 42 Millionen südafrikaner.
neben den nachbarländern namibia, botsuana, simbabwe, Mosambik und
swasiland, teilt sich südafrika auch eine grenze mit dem Königreich Lesotho,
welches als enklave vollständig vom südlichsten Land afrikas umschlossen wird.
den größten teil der Landmasse nimmt das zentrale binnenhochland ein. dieses
plateau, das „highveld“, liegt auf höhen zwischen 1000 und 1500 Metern. in den
drakensbergen – einer gebirgsformation, die das Land von nordosten nach südosten
durchzieht – ragt der Mafadi Mountain mit 3.450 Metern als höchster berg
am Kap der guten hoffnung in den himmel.

south africa lies at the southern point of the african continent. Waves from two
oceans break over its 2,500 kilometres of coastline, making the country a favourite
destination for water sports fans. 42 million south africans live in an area approximately
3.5 times larger than germany. along with the neighbouring countries of
namibia, botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and swaziland, south africa also
shares a border with the Kingdom of Lesotho which as an enclave is completely
surrounded by africa’s most southerly country. the central uplands occupy most
of the land mass. this plateau, known as the “highveld”, sits at heights between
1,000 and 1,500 metres. Within the drakensberg Mountains – a mountain formation
which crosses the country from north east to south east – the Mafadi Mountain
is, at 3,450 metres, the highest peak towering above the cape of good hope.
