As you probably recently heard, Skip and
Leigh Ann Severance walked into our
sponsors showroom, Ed Dena’s Auto Center
in Dinuba, and made a reservation for a
2014 C7 Corvette. Congratulations to both
of them! I had been thinking of doing one
of my monthly messages on the overall
collection of Corvettes within our CVC
family and since Skip and Leigh Ann are
getting rid of their 1998 and buying a new
one, it is now time to visit this topic before
my research becomes outdated.
According to unofficial numbers, CVC has a
total of 48 Corvettes amongst its 78
members. Keep in mind most members are
considered couples and have just one car.
The oldest car in the group is a Cascade
Green 1957 owned by Patrick and Patricia
Garrahan and the newest Corvette is a 2012
belonging to Mike and Diane Hayes. The
Garrahan’s have owned their Corvette the
longest as they purchased it from the
original owner way back in 1960. Needless
to say this car also has the most miles on it
than any car in the club with the odometer
creeping up on 800,000
All six generations of Corvettes are
represented including 2 C1’s (1953-1962), 4
C2’s (1963-1967), 4 C3’s (1968-1982), 5
C4’s (1984-1996), 18 C5’s (1997-2004) and
15 C6’s (2005-2013). What model year
does CVC have the most of? That would be
2007 and we have five of those in the club.
Six couples own at least two Corvettes and
Keith and Debbie Garrison lay claim to the
largest collection with three, including a
1958, a 1981 and a 1998.
Some people say there is not much
difference between average numbers and
median numbers. While that might be true
in some cases, that is not the story with
CVC. Average age is of course taking all
cars and adding them up and dividing by 48.
Median is the point where 24 cars are above
a certain number and 24 cars are below that
number. The average age or model year of a
Corvette in CVC is 1995, but the median
age or model year is 2001. In this case the
median number is more accurate simply
because 33 of our 48 cars (68%) are from
1997 to 2012.
If you combine last month’s article about the
age of the members, now you know the
typical CVC member is 65 years old, drives
a 2001 Corvette and is very likely retired.
