CERTIFICATE IN HEALTHCARE SAFETY<br />
THE PROGRAM<br />
The Certifi cate of Completion in Healthcare Safety is designed for the professional in the healthcare<br />
environment who is responsible for the safety of patients, employees, and visitors. A certifi cate of<br />
completion in Healthcare Safety will provide a solid foundation to assist in facilitating institutional<br />
compliance with <strong>OSHA</strong> regulations and meeting The Joint Commission (TJC) standards as they relate<br />
to the environment of care. <strong>Course</strong> content will specifi cally address conducting risk assessments, the<br />
Hospital Incident Command System (HICS), NFPA’s Life Safety Code®, and The Joint Commission’s<br />
Statement of Conditions.<br />
The Advanced Safety and Health Certifi cate of completion provides a wide range of electives allowing<br />
individuals to focus on courses of preferred interest. The Certifi cate of Completion in Healthcare<br />
Safety provides a specifi c track, and is designed for the professional who works or seeks to obtain<br />
employment as a safety professional in the healthcare industry responsible for the safety of patients,<br />
employees, and visitors.<br />
Certificate Requirements<br />
To earn the Certifi cate of completion in Healthcare Safety, the individual will have to successfully complete<br />
seven required courses. At least fi ve of the courses, including the fi nal two, must be completed through the<br />
<strong>CSUDH</strong> OTIEC. All courses must be completed within a 5 year period. The offi cial “certifi cate enrollment<br />
date” is the fi rst day of the fi rst <strong>CSUDH</strong> OTIEC course the participant wishes to count towards the certifi cate<br />
of completion. <strong>Course</strong>s taken through other offi cial <strong>OSHA</strong> Training Institute Education Centers can be used<br />
to fulfi ll up to two courses required for the certifi cate of completion in Healthcare Safety.<br />

• OSX 920w Hazardous Materials within the Healthcare Environment (added)<br />
• OSX 920t Emergency Management within the Healthcare Environment (added)<br />
• OSX 920v Fire & Life Safety within the Healthcare Environment (added)<br />
• OSX 907 Basic Life Support –American Heart Association<br />
