2017 JCC Summer Camp Guide

The JCC of Syracuse's Summer Camp offers programs for infants, preschoolers, school-age children and teens. Camp runs June 26 - August 18, 2017.

315-445-2360 | www.jccsyr.org JCC Camp Rishon School-Age Camps Children entering grades 1–6 Camps Specialty Camps Photography Camp with SU Light Work Daily field trip to SU Light Work! • Week 2: July 3–7 (not 7/4) • For children entering grades 3 & up • Price Level: A This photography-intensive camp will teach campers how to take photos while strolling the SU campus and surrounding area. Campers will also learn how to organize, edit, manipulate and enhance images using a computer, and take home a disc of finished photos at the end of the week. A digital camera is recommended, but not required. Enrollment: Minimum of 8 and maximum of 10 campers. NEW Puppetry Camp • Week 5: July 24–28 • For children entering grades 1 & up • Price Level: A Celebrate the arts through masks, puppets, performing and more. Children will lean the tricks and the trades of performing live. Campers will create their own puppets and work together to put on a production for all to see on Friday! Enrollment: Minimum of 8 and a maximum of 15 campers. Rocketry Camp • Week 7: August 7–11 • For children entering grades 4 & up • Price Level: B Make and launch your very own rockets! Spend the week learning and experimenting with the physics behind rocketry. Construct and personalize a rocket of your own and watch it soar. Learn the fundamentals and safety of model rocketry. We will launch our rockets right here at camp for all to see. Enrollment: Minimum of 8 and maximum of 24 campers. It pays to become a JCC member and $ave on summer camp! Secret Agent Camp • For children entering grades 1–3 Week 5: July 24–28 Week 6: July 31 – August 4 • For children entering grades 4 & up Week 8: August 14–18 • Price Level: B Spend the week training like a secret agent. Learn skills in disguise, surveillance and decoding. We’ll cover it all this week. Spend one day playing laser tag with your fellow agents at Fun Junction and another day getting agent training at the Museum Of Science and Technology (MOST). Each camper will get secret agent equipment to keep. Enrollment: Minimum of 8 and maximum of 24 campers. Soccer with Le Moyne College • Beginner players Week 3: July 10–14 • Advanced players Week 7: August 7–11 • Price Level: B Learn to play soccer from the Le Moyne College players. Campers will experience soccer by playing games, running drills and fine tuning skills. Bring your A game! Enrollment: Minimum of 8 and maximum of 24 campers. Tennis with Gold’s Gym • Week 1: June 26–30 • For children entering grades 1 & up • Price Level: A Campers will learn and practice the skills necessary to play tennis at a level that will keep them challenged and enthusiastic. Requirements: Tennis rackets are required, although Gold’s Gym will have a few to be shared. Enrollment: Minimum of 8 and maximum of 24 campers. Theatre Camp • Week 3: July 10–14 • For children entering grades 3 & up • Price Level: B Join us as we enter the creative world of Postmodern Theatre where the only limitation is your imagination! Campers will learn the basics of this incredible and important style through games and exercises, as well as working together to create their own performance at the end of the week for all to see. Watch as we transform everyday objects and situations into the very essence of performing art. No experience necessary, only curiosity and the desire to learn! Enrollment: Minimum of 8 and a maximum of 15 campers. Wild About Art with Mark Raush • Week 3: July 10–14 • For children entering grades 1 & up • Price Level: C Take a trip to the Rosamond Gifford Zoo with sketchbook in hand and learn the art of drawing living creatures. Prefer something a little more ferocious? Give dinosaurs a try! Use different media to complete your projects, and try your hand at replicating body features and animal movements. This camp is gonna be wild! Enrollment: Minimum of 8 and maximum of 24 campers. Wilderness Skills • Week 4: July 17–21 • For children entering grades 4 & up • Price Level: C Spend your week learning how to survive in the great outdoors. Build tools and shelter from things found in the wild and learn the correct way to use a compass. Light campfires without matches, build your own compass, and make a solar oven. We will develop skills in forest areas two days of the week, learn how to tie knots, and have a survival kit to take home. Enrollment: Minimum of 8 and maximum of 24 campers. 315-445-2360 | www.jccsyr.org JCC Camp Rishon School-Age Camps Children entering grades 1–6 Clinics After-Camp Clinics After-Camp Clinics are available two days a week to give your child a more enriching after-camp experience. This year we are offering two fitness programs through the JCC Sports & Fitness Center. To participate in After-Camp Clinics, campers must be registered for camp during that particular week. Please indicate on the registration form whether you need Late Care on non-clinic days. The cost of Late Care will be prorated. Please use the After-Camp Clinic registration form and be sure to complete all waivers. Days: Mondays & Wednesdays Time: 4:15 pm Cost: $10/week for members, $15/week for non-members Movin’ & Groovin’ • Week 4: July 17 & July 19 • Week 6: July 31 & August 2 Bring your energy to move and groove to fun, upbeat music. This class is for all levels. Comfortable clothes and sneakers are required. Cardio Hoops • Week 3: July 10 & July 12 • Week 5: July 24 & July 26 • Week 7: August 7 & August 9 Hoop your way to happiness and health. A colorful mix of dance, play, games and movement designed to support physical activity. This class is for all levels. Use the registration form on page 11. The JCC pool is a gathering place for our members and a great place to be when the weather gets hot. Maximize your membership by enjoying the pool in the evenings after work, on the weekends with family and friends, and complete your morning workout by swimming some laps. Incorporating the pool in your personal training can add a new dimension to your fitness program. Utilize this great aerobic opportunity during our lap swimming hours and make the most of the upcoming pool season! Whatever needs the pool may satisfy, we know it will provide many hours of rewarding recreation for you and your family. Some of our aquatics programs that will run throughout the course of the swimming season include learn-to-swim lessons, private and semi-private lessons, swim team, adult lap swim and children’s pool parties. 2017 Pool Season Calendar Saturday, May 27 Monday, June 26 Tuesday, July 4 Monday, Sept. 4 Pool opens at 9 am Learn to Swim lessons begin Camp Rishon begins Holiday; pool open 9 am – 7 pm Labor Day; last day pool is open for the season Pool hours before and after Camp Rishon season Saturday, May 27 – Sunday, June 25 and Saturday, Aug. 19 – Monday, Sept. 4 Sunday – Friday 9 am – 7 pm Saturday 10 am – 7 pm Lap Swim (Mon.–Fri. only) Ends at noon Camp Rishon season Monday, June 26 – Friday, Aug. 18 Monday – Friday 3:30 pm – 8 pm Saturday 10 am – 7 pm Sunday 9 am – 7 pm Lap Swim only (Mon.–Fri. only) 8–9 am 15 minutes each hour may be designated for Adult Swim and can be scheduled by request with the lifeguards on duty.
