MUSEUMS AND VISITOR CENTRES In the Hardangerfjord region there are many high quality museums and visitor centres displaying the rich culture and heritage of Norway. See page 25 4 Hardanger Akvasenter Fully operational salmon farm open for visitors, explaining the life cycle of the salmon and modern aquaculture. Exhibition with underwater cameras and videos. Guided tours including feeding the fish. Salmon lunches or sample tastings on request. See page 25 5 The Norwegian Museum of Hydro Power and Industry (NVIM) An insight into the history of Norwegian hydropower industry.The hydropower history in Odda began in Tyssedal in 1906 and the spectacular power station Tysso 1 still stands as a monument by the fjord. Daily guided tours, slide show and exhibits. See page 11, 33. 6 Røldal stave church The church was built in the 13th century and according to the legend, the crucifix in the church has healing powers. During the Middle Ages Røldal was an important pilgrimage destination in Norway. Guided tours in the summer season. See page 34. 7 Hardanger Folk Museum Exhibitions of Hardanger embroidery, traditional costumes and Norways largest collection of old Hardanger fiddles. Art and historic exhibitions. Open air museum with historic buildings. Museum shop and café. Special arrangements for groups like cider tasting, Hardanger fiddle mini concerts and Hardanger embroydery courses. See page 37. 8 Agatunet Listed hamlet with 30 buildings from the Middle Ages until today. The oldest house is Lagmannsstova from 1250. Guided tours.
