COuRsE From Ginzling, it’s a gentle ascent
along the old zemmtal Valley Road (“From
Karlsteg to Breitlahner” Theme Trail) to
Breitlahner Inn. You may alternatively take
the bus from Ginzling to Breitlahner.
Continue along the road and the footpath
traversing zemmgrund until you reach
Berliner hut, which is a moderate climb.
TRAIL DEsCRIPTIOn starting at the church
in Ginzling, stay on the left bank of
zemmbach Brook when you walk through the
village into zemmtal Valley. It is a gentle
ascent on the old valley road that takes you
along meadows and through groves. Always
remember to stay on the left bank of the
brook, following it downstream. having

passed Roßhag Inn, the trail merges onto
the valley road. Continue without changing
direction. Then, take the left fork towards
Breitlahner Inn right before the beginning
of schlegeis Toll Road (as an option you can
take a bus from Ginzling to Breitlahner).
here, obey the posted sign saying “Berliner
hütte”. Walk across the brook and follow the
dirt road towards Klausenalm Alpine Pasture
hut. There is a turnoff right before the hut
where you continue on the right bank of
zemmbach Brook. From there, the trail
follows an even path within wide open
terrain along zemmgrund, and you will soon
reach the area of schwemmalm. stay on the
left side of the slope and follow the steep
climb to Grawand hut, which is followed by
various switchbacks leading up to the alpine
pastures. As the valley narrows, take the
steep singletrack trail (with permanently
fixed cables for protection) winding up to
Alpenrosen hut and directly to the shelter
(do not cross the brook towards Waxeggalm).
having passed Alpenrosen hut, continue on
the footpath to your left that takes you
gently up to Berliner hut.
KEY POInTs Brooks are meandering
through the meadows of zemmtal Valley and
running down the slopes of zemmgrund; in
this damp area, rocks and boulders are
covered with a thin water film

ascending Grawand hut you
can enjoy scenic views back
to the wide valley floor and
the forest; the hut itself
offers stunning views to the
spectacular cascading
waterfalls rushing down
schönbichler Kar Cirque;
zemmbach Ravine is
situated between Grawand
hut and Alpenrosen hut

prominent mountain known

the old valley road merges

nice view of the glaciers

FEATuREs
nATuRAL FEATuREs Glaciers, glacial
streams, glacier nature trail, alluvial soil,
Baumpension Project; this walk partly runs
through the zillertal Alps nature Park:
zillertal Alps Alpine nature Park has been a
protected area since 1991. The park
comprises an area of 372 square kilometers
and is surrounded by Reichenspitz Range to
the east and Olperer mountain to the west.
Even before the creation of the nature park,
three spectacular reservoirs have been built.
CuLTuRAL FEATuREs mountaineer resort
of Ginzling: The building of the old
elementary school of Ginzling houses
temporary exhibitions on various nature
park themes. There is also a nature park
summer program including guided tours and
various events of the zillertal Alps nature
Park Region. Theme Trail no. 30 is known as
“Let me tell you” and leads to Breitlahner
Inn, “From Karlsteg to Breitlahner” Theme
Trail departs from Ginzling (ask for the
brochure at the Tourist Information Office).
Ginzling features traditional farmhouses,
which are covered with weatherproof larch
shingles, as well as a former residential
building that has been attached directly to
the rock and is called Gschlössl. In 1997, on
the occasion of its 100th anniversary,
Berliner hut was the first of its kind to
become a listed building.
hIsTORICAL FEATuREs Berliner hut: Its
origins were modest—the ground area
measured not more than 10 x 6m; it was a
simple boarded hut including one ladies
bedroom, an eat-in kitchen, one gent’s
bedroom, and a hay storage in the attic. Yet
the hut’s popularity led to a radical
conversion in 1910 and Berliner hut was
equipped with lavish fittings. A listed
building, it is probably the only mountain
hut in the Alps to boast chandeliers.
