French Lesson Plan Hobbies Purpose and requirements: The lesson can be followed by students from level A2 (or end of A1), from the DELF level scale. It can be a little difficult to introduce hobbies, and students should already have learned some basic vocabulary words for hobbies and how to express habits. At this point, students know the présent and passé composé and conditionnel présent or have good understanding of all three tenses. The lesson introduces detailed, contemporary, personalized, hobby-related vocabulary as well as time expressions. Lesson objectives: • Communication: Talk about hobbies and sports, express habits and preferences, and ask others about their hobbies • Grammar focus: Use of articles and prépositions • Vocabulary: Hobbies, sports, arts, and music... • Culture: French sports and French habits for leisure activities Learning outcome(s): By the end of this lesson students will: • be able to talk about their favorite hobbies. • be able to ask others about their hobbies. • have learned richer vocabulary about hobbies. • understand the difference between jouer à, jouer du, etc. • use accurate expressions to express habits. • express personal preferences. Material: • card-size sheets of papers Bridge-in: 1- Confidence: Students are asked to write on pieces of paper the names of hobbies they know in French. They can be sports, leisure activities, music, and all kinds of activities for free time. Each student will read what he/she has written. If there are duplicate hobbies, students should put them aside when they hear hobbies mentioned that they have written about. At the end of the activity, teacher collects only the unique hobbies.
