Introduction<br />
Jake Johnson is thinking about getting married. He wants to fi nd out whether any children he has are likely to inherit the <strong>condition</strong> that runs in his <strong>family</strong>. He gives you the following<br />
information about his <strong>family</strong>. Use the <strong>family</strong> <strong>history</strong> information below to draw the <strong>family</strong> tree.<br />
Information about Jake’s <strong>family</strong><br />
• Jake Johnson (23/6/1984) is fi t and well.<br />
• His father Robert (13/8/1959) has the kidney<br />
<strong>condition</strong> that runs in the <strong>family</strong> but his mother<br />
Emily (7/9/1960) is unaff ected.<br />
• Robert and Emily Johnson have two other<br />
children, a daughter Emma and a son Lewis.<br />
• Their daughter Emma (17/12/1988) has the kidney<br />
<strong>condition</strong>; Lewis (8/11/1990) is unaff ected.<br />
• Emily’s father is Derek Hall (age 81) who is well,<br />
but her mother Joan Hall died at the age of 65 in<br />
1996 from a heart attack.<br />
• Derek and Joan Hall have another daughter,<br />
Susan (3/10/1957), who is married to John Hill<br />
(13/1/1956).<br />
• Susan and John Hill have a daughter Janet<br />
(31/5/1978) who is well; they also had a daughter,<br />
Chloe, stillborn at 29 weeks gestation in January<br />
1980.<br />
• Robert Johnson’s mother Edith (age 76) is<br />
unaff ected; his father George had the kidney<br />
<strong>condition</strong>. He died in 1997 (born 1929).<br />
• Edith and George Johnson had two other<br />
children: Richard (4/4/54)and Sarah (9/1/1956)<br />
who has the <strong>condition</strong>. Sarah is married to<br />
Thomas King (23/3/1955).<br />
• Sarah and Thomas have two daughters: Gemma<br />
(3/5/1989) who has the <strong>condition</strong> and Linda<br />
(22/11/1991) who is unaff ected.<br />
