Short films from all over the world at the 25th Hamburg

Hamburg, 5 May 2009 Is it a Birthday Party? Or More of a Wedding Anniversary? Short films from all over the world at the 25 th Hamburg ISFF For the 25 th time, the Hamburg International ShortFilmFestival will be rolling around between 2 and 8 June, bringing over 400 short films from more than 40 countries to Hamburg. The 25 th Hamburg International ShortFilmFestival (ISFF) “That’s a quarter of a century. Makes a girl festival think ...” (Marilyn Monroe in “Some Like It Hot”). And think we did. First about how to celebrate our 25 th edition properly, and then about which films to invite to the party. This year, we had around 4,000 submissions from over 100 countries to choose from, and after weeks and months of previewing, we managed to narrow that down to over 200 films in the various competitions. Add to that around 100 films in seven special programmes and two anniversary programmes offering a tour of the Festival’s history: one is the 25-hour Screening, and the other is entitled “Those Were the Days” and showcases award-winning films from the last 25 years of the Festival. The anniversary has been a welcome opportunity for us to come up with a Festival Museum, which will probably be located in the foyer of Filmhaus. For this museum – more like the ISFF’s sitting room, really – we have dug up historical artefacts from the depths of our basements, shelves and wardrobes. You will be able to marvel at and maybe even touch old posters, brochures, t-shirts, bottles left over from the 35ml Club and many, many more fabulous items from 25 years of the Hamburg ISFF. “We might be taking a look back this year, but we certainly haven’t become any wiser”, says Jürgen Kittel, the ISFF’s Artistic Director. “We still can’t leave ourselves alone, we’re still decidedly short, and we can tell different forms of pain apart.” Almost parallel to the ISFF, the 11 th Mo&Friese Children’s ShortFilmFestival will be held from 1 to 7 June.
