August 2012 Newsletter - Quilters by the Sea
Volume XIX, Issue 8 President’s Message www.QuiltersByTheSea.com August 2012 “The sound of laughter has always seemed to me the most civilized music in the universe.” Peter Ustinov July did not turn out exactly as we planned it at QBS. I received a phone call from our contact person at 1 st Baptist Church of Lakewood. I learned she had double booked the Fellowship Hall for July 12, the night of our scheduled general meeting. I had to make the hard and awful decision to announce the cancellation of our meeting. What a disappointment. Please note: As I mentioned in our newsletter last month, our August meeting will take place on August 23 rd , if the refurbishing of the Hall is completed on schedule. I will know by the 16 th if the meeting will be cancelled and will send out an email blast if this is the case. On a happier note, I have to report Frances Moore’s workshop was simply too much fun. The pattern “Woven Ribbons” looked complicated, but was actually quite easy, once you got the hang of it. We had a great group of members participating and each made the design her own with unique fabric choices and placement. Frances is a kind, encouraging, and a positive instructor. I know a lot of the attendees can’t wait to finish their edition of Woven Ribbons and bring it to Show N Tell. Next up for QBS is the annual Retreat in Temecula. Cat Harris and Mary Carbajal, Co-Chairpersons, promise this will be a memorable event. Cat has even created a blog just for this event: http:// www.qbsretreat2012escapereality.blogspot.com/ Last year I spent so much time laughing and sewing and sharing that I can’t wait for August 16 th . I’ve been organizing, cutting, and dreaming about what projects to take and anticipating the jelly roll race, water ballet, etc. We will be having a board meeting on the 16 th . All are invited to attend and participate. Also, at the retreat, I will have Robert’s Floral Garden, the kit and fabric donated to the guild by Alice Roberts, to make as our Opportunity Quilt for 2013. It would be terrific if we could get a lot of members on board to create this appliquéd and pieced beauty completed and quilted by December. Sew Happy, Susan C.
