Graduate recruitment program
The Graduate Recruitment Program is focused on entry- or junior level, full-time permanent and contract opportunities for
our undergraduate and graduate students completing their studies in the current academic year. Students can graduate from
the Schulich School of Business during two convocation periods throughout the course of the academic school year:
Fall (October/November): PhD, MBA, MBA/JD,MBA/MFA, EMBA, PDAM, MPA, MF, BBA, and iBBA degrees
Spring (June): PhD, MBA, IMBA, MBA/JD, MBA/MFA, MPA, PDAM, BBA, and iBBA degrees
The majority of our graduate recruitment activity takes place between September and November. We recommend recruiters
plan their hiring for this time to ensure they can successfully compete for candidates they are seeking. We can, however,
accommodate graduate recruitment needs up to convocation the following June.
The following options are available when coordinating your graduate recruitment needs:
• Information Sessions
• Job Postings
• On-Campus Interviews
Internship and summer recruitment program
Our Internship and Summer Recruitment Program is focused on recruiting returning undergraduate- and graduate-level
students for short-term employment. Internship and summer recruitment also offers recruiting companies an excellent
opportunity to assess potential candidates for full-time employment, following graduation. The following options are
available when coordinating your internship and summer recruitment needs:
• Information Sessions
• Job Postings
• On-Campus Interviews
International business internships
International MBA (IMBA) students complete international internships as part of their program of study, which also includes
international business courses, a second-language specialization, and a regional specialization. These internships, called the
IMBA Work Term, take place in the student’s region of study (i.e. North America, Asia Pacific, Latin America, Europe, or
India) from May to August or from September to December. To find out more about how you and your organization could
benefit from hosting an IMBA Work Term student, please contact the Assistant Director, Internships and Corporate Services
at imba@schulich.yorku.ca.
Internship and summer recruitment
Summer
The posting of summer internships can begin during the Fall term and continue through to the beginning of the Summer
term the following year.
Internship
We recommend posting opportunities six months prior to the employment start date to allow students time to make the
appropriate arrangements and to ensure success in your recruitment efforts.
MBA students are able to pursue internship opportunities year-round. We are able to help you post Internship
opportunities that take place at any point throughout the year, with durations from two to 16 months.
BBA/iBBA students need to make special arrangements with the undergraduate Degree program to pursue internships
that take place outside of the summer term. We recommend posting year-round internships early to allow students to
make the necessary arrangements. Summer internships, however, do align well with undergraduate’s academic calendars.
Posting a job opportunity
To post a position with the Career Development Centre (CDC), please complete the convenient on-line job posting form,
found at www.schulich.yorku.ca/jobposting, or provide your CDC Account Manager (see page 4) with your job posting
which should include the following information:
• Contact information
• Company summary
• Position summary, duties and qualifications
• Application procedure
• Identify target student group
• Application deadline
Use of the job posting form is recommended, as it allows you to identify your recruitment needs, ensuring that the CDC
can target your career opportunities to the appropriate group of business students. We further recommend that career
opportunities remain live on our recruitment system, CareerQuest, for a minimum of two weeks to ensure that positions
have been sufficiently advertised to the student body and to maximize exposure.
Resume collection
As an alternative to having students apply to you directly, the CDC can instruct students to apply directly on-line on our
recruitment system, CareerQuest. This route would ensure applications can be maintained within an electronic holding bin
until the application deadline. One business day following the application deadline, the CDC will provide you with an
electronic file of the student applications received. Resume collection is a complementary service offered by the CDC.
on-campus interviews. There are no booking or administration fees for our interviewing services.
Interviewing facilities
The Career Development Centre possesses a total of eight on-campus interviewing rooms which are available to reserve on
with the following complementary services while on campus:
• Wireless internet connection (available upon request)
• Coffee, tea and light snacks
• Executive dining room lunch (hot and cold buffet lunch hosted by your Account Manager)
Interviewing scheduling
Once you have developed a short-list of students you wish to invite to an interview, the CDC can assist you with
student notification and the coordination of the interview schedule. We recommend a minimum of five business days to
allow us to effectively connect with students and confirm their attendance for interviews.
For off-campus interviews, the CDC recommends that employers contact pre-selected students directly for interview
scheduling and coordination. Please be respectful of student’s academic requirements and limit time outside of the
classroom to a minimum.
Checking-in
When checking-in on the day of your on-campus interviews, please come to the Career Development Centre, located on
Interview offers and acceptance
Extending offers of employment
If you have decided to extend a job offer for a full-time, internship or summer position to a Schulich student, we recommend
following the below process:
• Offers should be presented in writing by the organization to the student
• The offer should contain a student response deadline
• Response deadlines should provide the candidate with a minimum two-week period for reply (with a preference for an
expiry date no earlier than November 4 for full-time hires for graduating students)
• No offers, bonuses or other perks should be contingent upon a positive candidate response prior to the above
mentioned guidelines
• Send letter of regrets or contact interview candidates who were not extended position offers
• In the event that an employment offer needs to be retracted, please notify your CDC Account Manager (see page 4) as
soon as possible
• Please adhere to the Ethical Recruitment Guidelines found on the Canadian Association of Career Educators and
Employers (CACEE) website at www.cacee.com
Interview acceptance
The CDC educates students and provides resources on employment etiquette such as negotiations, acceptances of offers
and impact of reneging on an acceptance by a student. In the event that a student does renege an offer, please contact
your CDC Account Manager (see page 4) as soon as possible.
Please notify your CDC Account Manager of the successful students who have accepted an offer of employment (for
full-time, internship and summer positions) with your organization.
