Next scheduled Portfolio Jury for those applying for a<br />

<strong>Guild</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Creative</strong> <strong>Art</strong> Associate or Exhibiting Membership<br />

You will need or 5 pieces <strong>of</strong> artwork in any <strong>of</strong> the following categories:<br />

� Flat Work – including acrylic, watercolor, oil, pencil, pastel, photography, mixed media, and printmaking<br />

� Sculpture – including wood, glass, ceramic, metal, or stone<br />

All work must be framed (if suitable) and pr<strong>of</strong>essionally presented.<br />

Work will be judged on the following categories:<br />

Originality/Creativity Composition/Design Technique/Execution Presentation<br />

Receiving: Thursday, July 19, 2012 Noon – 7:00 Non-refundable application fee: $25.00<br />

Judging: Friday, July 20, 2012 9:45 AM<br />

Pick up <strong>Art</strong>work: Saturday, July 21, 2012 2:00 – 4:30 Storage fee for artwork left after July 21, 2012<br />

Associate Members have all <strong>of</strong> the privileges <strong>of</strong> General members, plus:<br />

Able to exhibit in the <strong>Guild</strong>’s annual Exhibiting and Associate Member’s Show<br />

Exhibit two “Small Treasures” a month, 14 inches at longest dimension, space permitting<br />

Exhibit artwork at the <strong>Guild</strong>’s <strong>of</strong>fsite locations - List individual biography page and up to 10 images on the <strong>Guild</strong>’s Website<br />

Exhibiting Members have all <strong>of</strong> the privileges <strong>of</strong> Associate members, plus:<br />

Exhibit up to four works per month, 48 inches at longest dimension, space permitting<br />

Rent all or part <strong>of</strong> the Gallery for a solo or group show - Have their resume in the <strong>Guild</strong> Exhibiting <strong>Art</strong>ist Portfolio Book<br />

Place up to 3 matted but unframed flatware works in the portfolio bins every 3 months<br />

Place up to 3 giclee or archival prints in the portfolio bins every 3 months - Eligible for commissions<br />

(Exhibiting privileges for Exhibiting and Associate Members are limited to the member’s accepted category only)<br />

Portfolio Jury Judging Criteria<br />

1. Originality/Creativity – <strong>The</strong> work is different and inventive and has not been copied from other sources. <strong>The</strong> work will<br />

be judged as a Portfolio with emphasis on a consistent, distinct style that looks like it was done by the same person.<br />

Evidence <strong>of</strong> experimentation with materials and imagery may be present as well as evidence <strong>of</strong> risk-taking.<br />

2. Composition/Design – <strong>The</strong> work shows a strong understanding <strong>of</strong> composition which is defined as a thoughtful<br />

arrangement <strong>of</strong> the art elements (color, texture, line, shape, space, and value) using the principles <strong>of</strong> design. <strong>The</strong> work<br />

is commanding, with fresh visual impact, and has a sense <strong>of</strong> “flow” that is, at the same time, controlled and organized<br />

around a center <strong>of</strong> interest.<br />

3. Technique/Execution – <strong>The</strong> manner and skill with which the artist uses the tools and materials to achieve the chosen<br />

effect is consistent and well done. <strong>Art</strong>ist shows a mastery <strong>of</strong> the media (this includes color theory, perspective, the<br />

printing process, Photoshop or HDR if applicable).<br />

4. Presentation – <strong>The</strong> artist has presented the work in a pr<strong>of</strong>essional manner. Frames and mats are clean, damage-free,<br />

and are appropriate for the piece.<br />
