Next scheduled Portfolio Jury for those applying for a
Guild of Creative Art Associate or Exhibiting Membership
You will need or 5 pieces of artwork in any of the following categories:
� Flat Work – including acrylic, watercolor, oil, pencil, pastel, photography, mixed media, and printmaking
� Sculpture – including wood, glass, ceramic, metal, or stone
All work must be framed (if suitable) and professionally presented.
Work will be judged on the following categories:
Originality/Creativity Composition/Design Technique/Execution Presentation
Receiving: Thursday, July 19, 2012 Noon – 7:00 Non-refundable application fee: $25.00
Judging: Friday, July 20, 2012 9:45 AM
Pick up Artwork: Saturday, July 21, 2012 2:00 – 4:30 Storage fee for artwork left after July 21, 2012
Associate Members have all of the privileges of General members, plus:
Able to exhibit in the Guild’s annual Exhibiting and Associate Member’s Show
Exhibit two “Small Treasures” a month, 14 inches at longest dimension, space permitting
Exhibit artwork at the Guild’s offsite locations - List individual biography page and up to 10 images on the Guild’s Website
Exhibiting Members have all of the privileges of Associate members, plus:
Exhibit up to four works per month, 48 inches at longest dimension, space permitting
Rent all or part of the Gallery for a solo or group show - Have their resume in the Guild Exhibiting Artist Portfolio Book
Place up to 3 matted but unframed flatware works in the portfolio bins every 3 months
Place up to 3 giclee or archival prints in the portfolio bins every 3 months - Eligible for commissions
(Exhibiting privileges for Exhibiting and Associate Members are limited to the member’s accepted category only)
Portfolio Jury Judging Criteria
1. Originality/Creativity – The work is different and inventive and has not been copied from other sources. The work will
be judged as a Portfolio with emphasis on a consistent, distinct style that looks like it was done by the same person.
Evidence of experimentation with materials and imagery may be present as well as evidence of risk-taking.
2. Composition/Design – The work shows a strong understanding of composition which is defined as a thoughtful
arrangement of the art elements (color, texture, line, shape, space, and value) using the principles of design. The work
is commanding, with fresh visual impact, and has a sense of “flow” that is, at the same time, controlled and organized
around a center of interest.
3. Technique/Execution – The manner and skill with which the artist uses the tools and materials to achieve the chosen
effect is consistent and well done. Artist shows a mastery of the media (this includes color theory, perspective, the
printing process, Photoshop or HDR if applicable).
4. Presentation – The artist has presented the work in a professional manner. Frames and mats are clean, damage-free,
and are appropriate for the piece.
