Monroe County Sheriff’s Office - Rap Sheet
Special Investigations Report
By Lt. Nancy Alvarez
Greetings from Special Ops!
Things have been very busy
for our units...The Narcotics Division
has been keeping busy with the
many search warrants with recovery
of illegal narcotics, Stolen property
and firearms! On that note we have
noticed an increase in firearms when
conducting these searches, and we
want to thank all the Officers for all the
intelligence they continue to provide
us on these targets with guns and
video cameras. We would also like
to thank Dep. Jason Keith, Dep. Nick
Pham and Dep. Keith Albert and Dep.
Ken Fricke (K9) Tracer for assisting us
consistently on traffic stops and search
warrants! You guys have been a great
help to us! (And don’t worry Ken, I will
NEVER move your car again!!!)
We also want to welcome aboard
Lance and Geni Hernandez ....everyone
has been working great together.
HIDTA Report
By Detective Sergeant Lee Ann Holroyd
Things continue to be busy in the
world of narcotics and money laundering
and HIDTA continues to be in hot
pursuit of the proverbial bad guy. We
are still awaiting the arrival of foreign
monies. Anxiously awaiting is an
understatement. When working with
foreign judicial systems, the wheels
turn so very slowly.
The Office has gained a new
member with the arrival of Caber
Bausmith. He was born on February
18, 2008 to Phissamay Heng and
Steven Bausmith. Phissamay is a
Special Agent with ICE, Key West.
She is assigned to the HIDTA Office
in Marathon and is an integral part of
our task force. Steve is a CBP Officer
in Key West. They both returned this
summer and what a relief. We depend
on Steve for advice on US entry and
inspection laws. Of course, having
Phissamay back is great. As we know,
when we are gone, the work just piles
up. I think that we left enough work
for Phissamay to know how much she
was missed. We are looking forward
to visits from the little man pictured
We are also taking a county
wide initiative enforcement by working
with the Monroe County Coalition
Inc, to ensure local establishments
and businesses are in compliance
with licensing and prohibiting underage
drinking. Crime Analyst Bonnie
Randolph has been attending these
meetings and has provided us some
new tools to make us more effective.
For those that do not know, Bonnie is
also our Crimestoppers representative
for MCSO which continues to keep her
very busy!
The Homicide guys are busy following
up leads and tips .....Fantasy
Fest brought the CAWACU and Victim
Advocate units many "interesting" calls
and complaints. Det. Mixon is keeping
busy with her “Safety day /Stranger
danger” demo day at Montessori
School.... and lastly, we would also like
to welcome Det. Kim Trullender to the
below.
On a more serious note we are actively
working several new cases with
FBI Homestead and Key West. We
enjoy a very good working relationship
with the FBI, due largely to the mutual
respect between our Administration
and the FBI field offices. I would
encourage you to refer cases to our
local offices if you and your supervisor
deem them appropriate for FBI
involvement. We are in the process of
looking for some pre-approved overtime,
from a Federal source, related to
these cases. I will keep you informed
as we progress.
I was recently approached
about a temporary duty assignment to
our office and am working on presenting
this to the Sector. I know that
staffing is an issue and of course will
always take precedence. This is a
great way to get a look at the Federal
Judicial System and work with the
United States Attorney’s Office prosecuting
individuals for Federal Crimes.
Always good to learn something new
and work with different agencies. The
6
December 2008
CAWACU Unit!
We also participated in a CART
(Child Abduction Reaction Team) table
top exercise that FDLE hosted. Hopefully
we will never have to be utilized
but this is a team within the Sheriff's
Office that has been designated to
rapidly respond to a missing or abducted
person.
Reminder there is a Statement
Analysis Course December 8th and
9th at Key Colony Beach City Hall.
This is a 2 day course and the last attendees
said it was great! It includes
how to analyze statements and detect
deception, and how vital it is for the
primary officer to obtain written statements!
I highly recommend anyone
interested in Detectives or Investigations
attend this course! Seats are
filling fast!
Caber Bausmith, born in February
to Phissamay Heng and
Steven Bausmith.
experience is incredibly valuable.
Just ask Sergeant Donnie Elomina,
he learned quickly how to work in
the Federal System and how to bring
cases to the point of prosecution. I
am still asked by other agencies about
him. He earned quite a reputation
working with the Feds. Because of the
hard work of Sgt. Elomina, one of his
cases is coming to a close and assets
are forth coming.
We will continue working on
retrieving our foreign assets for use in
our agency and community. Remember,
the smallest tip you receive could
be the beginning of another BIG case.
