Mike’s Message
I hope everyone had a safe and happy Memorial Day Holiday.
Thank you to all that helped with the planning and coordination
of the Pear Run this year. Even though this year’s event
was cancelled I want to say thank you to each and everyone
of you for your time and dedication. All of you together
helped raise the bar on this event and I know next year’s race
will be successful.
I would like to express my thanks to all of you that helped out
with the Class #34 Graduation and the setup for the PD
Awards Banquet. You guys really saved the PD a lot of time.
The Advanced CPA Class will be starting on May 31 through
June 28th. The classes times will be from 7pm-9pm and will
be held in the upstairs training room. I hope to see you
there.
We are still in need of volunteers for the upcoming Fourth of
July celebration. If you would like to volunteer for this event
please contact Larry Berkowitz at berkowitz.lary@gmail.com.
Again, Thank you to each and every one of you for the time
and dedication you put into this organization.
Bill’s Blog
Many thanks to the Pear Run Committee and to those who
volunteered on race day! Although the weather did not
cooperate, it was our most successful event ever. We had
approximately 750 registrants and were looking for well over
800 had it continued. Nice job everyone!
The annual Police Officer’s Banquet at the New Hope Church
was outstanding. Lisa Keeling received our Volunteer of the
Year Award. Gary Kersten and Sam Gutierrez received special
citizen’s recognition awards, one for saving a life and the other
for excellent police work. To learn the details, congratulate
both, the next time you see them.
There is a common misconception among Americans that
Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves with a stroke of his pen. Yet
the Emancipation Proclamation, which went into effect on Jan.
1, 1863, did no such thing – or, at least, it didn’t do a very good
job of it. Two and a half years later, on June 19, 1865, Union
Soldiers sailed into Galveston, Texas announced the end of the
Civil War, and read aloud a general order freeing the quartermillion
slaves residing in the state. It’s likely that none of them
had any idea that they had actually been freed more than two
years before. It was truly a day of mass emancipation. It has
become know as what? (Source: Time U.S.). Answer is in this
RAP Sheet.
Flag Day is Thursday June 14th. Please display.
Why not treat dad to a juicy burger or cake and Blue Bell on
Sunday June 17th? After all it’s his day and don’t forget to give
him a big hug. Also, we dads like to be told we are loved!
I didn’t know some days were longer than others. I’ve been
told that June 21st is the longest day of the year, 1st day of
summer is Wednesday, June 20th. Is that true? Have a great
summer and mark your calendars for the 4th of July celebration.
Volunteers are needed!
Thank you for volunteering and getting involved!
He who is devoid of the power to forgive is devoid of the
power to love.
Volunteers are still needed for the 4th of July event. If you are interested in being with the
CPA on Wednesday July 4th please call or email me. Lary Berkowitz 832-370-9258 or
