From the President
Hello fellow members. I am very happy to report that 2012 was an excellent year for the Club. We have no long
term debt and we have a growing Capital Reserve Fund, which has been set in place for future Club improvements.
Our Membership count is healthy, and activity at the Club has never been more evident. Winter months
used to represent a “quiet” time around Hyde Park, but with the popularity of the Club’s social events and
activities such as bowling, paddle and the Fitness Center, the Club has been quite busy.
The budgeted Capital projects for the upcoming year include pool improvements, kitchen and grounds equipment,
Clubhouse enhancements, grounds building roof replacement, as well as other important miscellaneous upgrades.
The Finance Committee is extremely diligent in their recommendation to the Board regarding these items as they
sort through pages of requests before marrying the most critical needs with our budget.
The Board Members and Staff are well under way with numerous unique initiatives that will touch every aspect of the Club in 2013. The
Membership Committee, as an example, is demonstrating their enthusiasm and innovation with their “Trivia” insert in this month’s
newsletter as well as upcoming new Member Socials. In addition, Eric O’Bryan will be introducing a Member Only car wash/detailing
service, as well as a new phone app that will enable members to access all of the Club’s activities at their fingertips.
As many of you are aware, the golf course has undergone quite a few enhancements this winter. Pat is finished with new tees on 2, 5 and 7
as well as the improvements to 9 fairway and approach. There is no question we have the finest conditioned course in the city and arguably
now the best Par 3’s around.
To conclude with some additional exciting news, the Club is proud to announce that beginning in 2013, there will be a new Caddie
Scholarship program. The Mike Fitzgerald Caddie Scholarship Fund was created for Mike by his colleagues upon his recent retirement. This
scholarship fund will be part of the Hyde Park Endowment Program with the goal of providing educational opportunities for many of our
fine Caddies. We hope this is the first of many new initiatives the Hyde Park Endowment program will be introducing to help sustain Hyde
Park as the premier Club in Cincinnati.
I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year, and I look forward to seeing you around the Club.
Ken
From the General Manager
Dear Member,
Happy New Year, welcome to 2013 and thank you for all you provided to the Club, staff and myself in 2012!
Revitalized membership offerings, exciting Club social functions, refreshed Club facilities all developed by energetic members serving on
various Committees.
These are just a few of the items that the Board, the Committees, the staff and I are working on for you in the New Year.
As a friendly reminder, your Club has many possibilities for you to entertain and host a function at Hyde Park from a meeting or family
dinner of 8 to a wedding or birthday celebration of 250. The various rooms or bowling alley can be booked for a private breakfast, lunch or
dinner. You also have the opportunity to sponsor an event for a family member, relative, friend or organization at the Club with no cost to
you. When booking a private party for 8 to 250 you are welcomed with the wonderful experience of working with Angi in assisting you
Best regards,
Eric O'Bryan

Thank you to all Hyde Park Members who supported your golf pro shop during the 2012 golf season and throughout
the holiday shopping season. Your business is greatly appreciated, and I hope to continue to earn your support
throughout 2013 and beyond.
Golf equipment will be new and exciting in 2013. Most of the major manufacturers are introducing products
offering technology geared toward improving your golf game through better feel, increased distance and greater
accuracy. We will have demos available for you to try the new equipment, but more importantly we will have the
tools for custom fitting to make this equipment the perfect match for your game. Take advantage of the expertise
possessed by your Hyde Park Professional Golf Staff to make your golf game more enjoyable for 2013 and beyond.
We introduced a few new men’s golf events in 2012, which proved to be very popular additions to our golf
calendar. Returning in 2013 will be the season-long two man match play event, the Drehs Cup and Wednesday
night nine hole men’s golf. In 2013, we will be using #10 tee as the starting hole for all play on those Wednesdays
when the Nine Hole Ladies are on the front nine. This will enable play to flow smoothly throughout the day as well
as provide an opportunity for Wednesday night golf to be played on both nines throughout the season.
The Men’s Christmas Stag was a very enjoyable event for all in attendance. Members enjoyed friendship and
camaraderie along with plenty of great food and drink. All of the 2012 Men’s golf event awards were presented to
the season’s winners. One of the final awards was presented to Steve Dilbone, who won the drawing for “Free Golf
Balls” for the entire 2013 season. Congratulations to Steve!
Finally, the golf pro shop will be open on the same days as the clubhouse this winter. Please make note of the golf
pro shop winter hours of operation:
Wednesday - Sunday 9:00 am - 5:00pm
Closed on Monday & Tuesday (through March)
(Also closed Wednesdays in February)
Don’t forget the indoor golf studio this winter for those who like to stay limber and keep their ball striking crisp.
The facility is available for golf instructions, as well. Jeff, Marshall and I will be available all winter. Please phone
the golf pro shop for further details or to schedule an appointment.
Around the Grounds
Dear Member:
The Grounds staff and I are moving into the winter season with much accomplished on the project front to hopefully improve
the golfing experience at Hyde Park. The winter months signal a shift in objectives for the staff. Some of the activities
the staff are involved with throughout the winter months are:
Snow and ice removal in the parking lots and platform tennis areas
 Preventative maintenance on all equipment
Organization and interpretation of weather, fertilizer, pesticide and labor data to adjust strategies for the upcoming season
 Continuing education and training seminars
 Long-range planning
 Tree Management program
 Organization of the shop area
 Hiring of seasonal staff
 Small projects
 Refurbishing of course accessories
A couple off-season notes: please note that all carts are on the path due to the dormant Zoysia grass. Orange flags will be permitted when
the soil conditions permit. Dormant Zoysia has a limited recuperative capacity; therefore any damage from carts will remain well into next
summer.
The winter months signify a select few temporary hole locations in the fairways on holes 6, 7and 16 due to shade from trees not allowing
the putting surfaces to thaw completely out. This situation will be evaluated on a daily basis. As always, please check with the Proshop or
twitter (@pobrienhpgcc) for the latest on course conditions.
From the Grounds Department, we wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season.
FITNESS 101
by Paul Bodenbach
I certainly hope everyone had a happy and joyous holiday season, that your travel was safe and free of incidence and you were
able to enjoy family and friends to the fullest! Personally, I was able to spend a couple of days in northern Wisconsin bird
hunting and visiting family. My hunting entails me putting a shotgun on my shoulder and walking around outside for a few
hours at a time. Believe me, the birds are safe. It’s much more about the activity of being outside moving around. I’m in the
same boat as many others in that holiday cheer adds a few pounds to the waistline. I know this because my artificial limb is
equipped with a load limit monitor and it lets me know when I need to cut a few pounds. Everyone else may want to pay
attention to how those new jeans in your normal size are a little tough to zip up! If in fact that’s the case, contrary to your
current belief, the size standards haven’t changed. However, parts of your anatomy have and this is the best time to do
something about it. The longer you wait, the tougher it is to look good in those jeans!
There it is the lead in to the discussion regarding the healthy start for the New Year. I’d actually like to reflect on 2012 for a
moment. First, I’ve been very fortunate to work with numerous members both on the fitness side and the golf performance
side. I’m happy to say that they have enjoyed success in better health and better play on the golf course, and I’m looking
forward to helping a greater number of members to health and better play in 2013.
I’m also proud to report my involvement with the Nike 360 Golf Performance program powered by the Gray Institute. I briefly
discussed this program in a previous article. It is a highly intense program regarding the biomechanics of the golf swing. The
assessment process I learned is second to none in golf! It has afforded me the gift of truly discerning the causes of problems
that limit the golfer’s ability and methods to help each one.
As an adjunct to this program, I spent the year competing in disabled golf events to understand the challenges for disabled
golfers in order to develop a program to enhance their play. It was my first attempt at competitive golf since college. I’m happy
to report I was 1 st in the second flight in the southern states championships and second in the first flight at the national disabled
golf championships. But, more importantly, I learned a great deal with respect to helping a different aspect of the population to
play this game that I have a great deal of passion for.
Lastly, I’m happy to report I’ve opened up my own fitness-sports performance facility on Wooster Pike in Fairfax. Body’s by
Bodie offers personal training, sports performance for athletes in all sports and athletic injury management. It is a product of
numerous clients whom I have worked with over the years requesting such a facility. I will continue to be a part of the great
group of Hyde Park professionals in order to serve your fitness and performance needs. My new facility will allow me to utilize
a wider range of my abilities as an Athletic Trainer to help a greater number of people. I look forward to helping you all
have a great 2013!
and Bordeaux. These tasting events continue to be a popular venue. They are a very affordable way to
spend the evening at the club and try wines that most likely you have never had before, pick up some education on wines, and have
good times with fellow members.
We have another wine tasting planned for Friday night, February 15 th at 6:30, featuring mostly red blends from Lake County and
North Coast California. I tasted some of these wines a few weeks ago, and they are fantastic and truly an exceptional value. Melissa
Brown will be hosting this event. Melissa is new to the wine world, but she is very knowledgeable about the wines she represents.
She will answer any questions you may have during the course of the evening.
February is going to be a hot month of promotions as we will entertain our annual Single Malt Scotch Tasting. Make sure you keep
Friday night, February 22 nd open on your calendars as we will have Cara Albers here to host our Glenfiddich Single Malt Tasting.
If you remember, Cara was here two years ago when we had our Glenlivit Scotch Tasting. Cara is very knowledgeable on all
the single malts that she represents. We will be tasting the following:
Glenfiddich Special Reserve 12 year old
Glenfiddich Solera Reserve 15 year old
Glenfiddich Ancnt Reserve 18 year old
Glenfiddich Founder’s Reserve SPO
Also, Chef Alex is going to put together some interesting food concepts that will blend with the Scotch that we will be featured.
This event will be held in the Old Main Bar and Center Lounge from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. It will be an informal tasting much
like the Woodford tasting we had in November. Door prizes will be available, dress is casual, and guests are always welcome.
We like to keep these events as affordable as possible. Therefore, this event will be priced the same as the Woodford tasting -only
$34.99 per person. Not a bad deal for this type of Single Malt Scotch and food to boot. Please make your reservations in a timely
manner by email to les@hydeparkcc.com or call the club at 513-871-3111.
