Irene and Ken Elliott

Another of the couples

in Halcyon Landing’s

Foundation Release is Ken

and Irene Elliott.

With Irene overseas on a special holiday with

one of the couple’s grandchildren, we caught

up with Ken for a chat about moving to

Halcyon’s latest lifestyle community.

Put simply, the Elliotts are literally counting

down the days until their new home is

completed and they can move in. “We’re

absolutely rapt in the whole concept at

Halcyon Landing, and we’ve already met

about half a dozen of our new neighbours,”

said Ken. So excited about this new phase

in their lives, Ken loves nothing more

these days than suiting up in his leathers

and jumping on his BMW Sports Tourer,

heading up the Highway to check out the

latest progress at Bli Bli.

Funnily enough, when they move into

their Coolum design home, one of the allnew

designs unique to Halcyon Landing,

the Elliotts will actually be up-sizing! With

the range of choices available, they were

immediately drawn to the Coolum home

design for its contemporary lines and a handy

one and a half car garage that’s perfect for

the bike. “We’re really looking forward to

living in the open plan layout,” said Ken.

Having spent a number of years in Sydney

before taking early retirement at 55, the

Elliotts initially moved to the Sunshine

State before ‘un-retiring’ to work together

overseas. The couple managed a business

supplying and servicing generators in

Bangladesh for two years and then went

on to help train nationals in small business

development among less advantaged

communities in Bangladesh, India, Egypt and

Thailand amongst others.

Describing this period of their lives as both

“rewarding and a great experience,” they

were keen to come back to Brisbane to set

up a new home base with a view to spending

time doing more of the things they wanted.

After eleven years on and off living in a villa

complex at Carindale, the Elliotts got itchy

feet again, this time focussing their attention

on the Sunshine Coast.

Then about six months ago while on a

weekend drive scouting around the Sunshine

Coast, Ken and Irene spotted a billboard for

Halcyon Landing. “Straight away we both

thought this could be for us,” said Ken. “We

knew about Halcyon because we actually

helped a friend move into Halcyon Waters at

Hope Island a few years ago. Back then we

were really impressed with what we saw, so

we couldn’t believe our luck when we found

out they were building a new community on

the Sunshine Coast.”

Another reason the Elliotts chose Halcyon

Landing was for the location right in the

centre of the Sunshine Coast. “It’s so central

and close to everything we need.”

As for the future, Ken is looking forward to

long rides through the beautiful Sunshine

Coast hinterland. Then it’s home to safely

garage the bike before catching up with new

friends and neighbours at the Rec Club.

Irene loves the idea of being part of a new

community and plans to get involved in

special interest groups, and enjoy some long

walks with their Bichon Frise ‘Jazz.’
