On Sunday and Monday, March 2
-3, Wilshire Lakes was a stop on
the Naples Museum of Art’s
13th Annual Artists' Studio
Tour. You might not know that
one of the nine featured local
artists on this year’s tour was
one of our Lowbank residents,
Joan Sonnenberg.
For those of you who do not
know Joan and her husband,
Fred, they met when they were
students at Carnegie-Mellon
University and raised 4 children.
Joan is a 76 year old five
foot redhead who paints very
large colorful paintings.
Our resident artist: Joan Sonnenberg
You might have read the recent
article about her and her work
in Gulfshore Life’s 2008 Visitors’
Annual issue.
Quoting Joan about her work:
Many of my paintings are large
scale canvases with intricate
colorful patterns that embrace
native American symbols; others
are sizeable images that
give a sense of life to common
everyday objects; and still others
are leafy tree forms that
have a lyrical quality. Intagliodriven
images resonate a world
of fiber optics vaguely reminiscent
of cubism and futurism.
Social Events: Easter Party
On the Saturday morning before
Easter, the main clubhouse was
awash with small children, parents
and grandparents. A hoppin' good
time was had by all!
The Easter Bunny arrived---in
sunny Florida style---in a convertible.
After many photo sessions
with Mr. Bunny, all proceeded outside
to hunt for Easter eggs. We
had almost 700 eggs filled with
candy and treats in two separate
Dryer Vent Cleaning
Have you checked your dryer vent recently?
Today I had my dryer vent
cleaned because I am purchasing a new
washer & dryer. My vent has not been
cleaned before, sorry to say, and it was
extremely clogged. In Wilshire Lakes,
most of our vents are vertical and go
through the roof. Before the new machines
were installed, I looked up into
the vent with a mirror and a flashlight
and it was awful. The
opening which was originally
four inches was about
the size of a half dollar.
hunting areas—one for the 3 and
under crowd and one for the big
kids. There were also a couple of
tables of crafts and some yummy
munchkin doughnuts and juice.
We are so fortunate to have such
a thriving family oriented
neighborhood and are looking forward
to seeing you all at the next
kids/family event!!!
I contacted a one man company
called LINT B GONE. The man was
here the next day and did a great
job for $90.00. He connected a
large (about 24" in diameter by 48"
high) vacuum to the vent in the
house and turned it on. He then
went on the roof and ran a brush
connected to flexible rods down the
vent loosening up a lot of fuzz and
lint. He then came into the house
and ran a brush up the vent connected
to an electric drill and got
the rest of the residue in the
His company phone number is 571-9028. This
is his only job and he is good at it. I had a
possible fire hazard with the vent and with a
clean vent I will save energy and money, not
From the Board
As we write this, it is hard to believe that our winter season
has almost passed. We hope everyone has enjoyed the cooler
weather and winter months. As a Board we continue to make
solid progress within our community and all new service personnel
continue to make great strides in improving the overall
appearance of Wilshire Lakes.
At the forefront of our efforts is the Front Entry Project for
our community. On April 8, 2008 the Master Board approved
plans and contractors for the upcoming project. The contractors
approved are Boran Craig Barber Engel Construction Co.,
Inc., Stahlman-England Irrigation and Doria Landscaping. A
Special Assessment for 2008, to fund a portion of this project,
was also approved by the Board during this meeting. Each
unit owner will be responsible to pay a Special Assessment for
2008 of $256.80 to the Wilshire Lakes Master Association by
May 31, 2008. All unit owners will receive a statement in the
mail from Southwest Property Management regarding this
payment. The remainder of the project will be funded
through a line of credit with a five year term. Repayment of
this line of credit will begin in January 2009 and will be included
in the Master Association quarterly dues for a period of
five years. Preliminary site work for the project is scheduled
to begin in late June and it is anticipated that all work will be
completed in late October. If you have not yet had a chance
to see the beautiful plans you can either visit the Wilshire
Lakes website at wilshirelakes.org to view them or attend a
Master Association Board meeting as they are on display at all
meetings.
In other news, in an effort to more effectively control speeding
within the community the Board has approved the installation
of four 25 mph paver style speed humps to slow drivers
on a 24/7 basis. The installation of these speed humps will
take one day and should take place in the next few weeks.
We are also a community with many fun, playful and cute
dogs. The only concern with these terrific animals is that
many owners are not taking the time to properly pick up after
their pets. Our community maintenance man has identified
areas throughout Wilshire Lakes where we could use some
Doggie Stations. In the next few weeks these stations will be
South Florida Water Management District has approved
new water restrictions effective April 18, 2008. Collier
County will be on Two Day A Week Water Restrictions.
Odd numbered addresses may irrigate lawns and landscapes
on Wednesdays and Saturdays and Even numbered
addresses may irrigate on Thursdays and Sundays from 12
a.m. to 10 a.m. or 4 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. Complete information
on the new restrictions can be viewed at
sfwmd.com or on our community website.
A few residents have inquired about the Wilshire Lakes
Community Garage Sale. Due to the construction and
short stacking space the community currently has at our
entrance, we will not be able to plan a Garage Sale for
2008 as construction will not be completed until late this
year. It has been decided to make this an Annual Event
in the future and the community will now hold one sale
per year beginning in 2009. The coordinator for this
event would like to schedule the sale during season, in
the month of February, for greater response. Currently
the next Garage Sale is tentatively planned for February
2009 and information regarding the exact date will be
available at the end of this year.
The Board thanks each of you for your continued support.
If you should have any questions or concerns please contact
us anytime and we will be happy to assist you. We
look forward to seeing you around the community!
