Some basic informations about Liechtenstein: Liechtenstein is a constitutional hereditary monarchy with a democratic and parliamentary base: Wedged between Austria and Switzerland – half of the 32´000 employes come from Austria & Switzerland. Liechtenstein does have a very open and diversified economy, first industry, secondly financial services. Population: 35´356 Surface: 160 KM2 Gross National Product: 3,3 billion € / Exports: 2, 95 billion € The local currency is the Swiss Franc, and the economy is integrated as well into Switzerland as into the rest of Europe - in as much as Liechtenstein has signed the European Economic Area (EEA) act with the European Union in 1994. The official language is German. In 2009 Liechtenstein has signed with the OECD the agreements in fiscal matters, that means not automatism in information exchange, nor abolition of the banking secrecy. However, there is no more space for tax evasion and countries like France, Germany, the USA for example, have signed Tax Information Exchange Agreement (TIEA) with Liechtenstein. The OECD no longer remains Liechtenstein on the so called gray list. As far as social protection schemes are concerned, Liechtenstein has adopted the Swiss system of the so called 3 pillars.
