Superior situational awareness, reduced
workload, greater command and control
Cobham delivers the new standard in
helicopter avionics. In one intuitive display, the
Cobham EFIS integrates these breakthroughs:
• 3D Synthetic Vision
• Highway-In-The-Sky (HITS) navigation
• Helicopter TAWS (HTAWS)
• Hover Vector
• Graphical Flight Management System (FMS)
• Head-Up Display (HUD) symbology
• Unusual Attitude Recovery (UAR)
• And much more
Not only is Cobham the safest, most advanced
system available. It is also the number-one
selling helicopter EFIS worldwide.
Conformal 3D Synthetic Vision
The Cobham EFIS is the only FAA-certified
avionics system to show you three-dimensional
terrain, obstacles, and traffic in real time on
the Primary Flight Display (PFD). It delivers a
real-time visual flow so realistic, so true-to-life,
it has been called Virtual VFR. The Cobham 3D
Synthetic Vision EFIS takes safety to an entirely
new level. The inset photo above shows the
Primary Flight Display while flying into the valley
3 The green boxes that create the Highway-In-The-Sky route on the PFD lead the pilot safely to his destination.
1
pictured. Note how accurately the display
conforms to the actual terrain in the photo.
That’s conformal 3D Synthetic Vision. Now
imagine the situation—not as sunny VFR—but
as a nighttime evacuation under deteriorating
weather conditions.
Highway-In-The-Sky (HITS)
Highway-In-The-Sky (HITS) allows pilots to fly
with ILS precision to any point in the world. The
HITS route appears on the PFD as a series of
green boxes superimposed over the flowing
terrain of the 3D Synthetic Vision. The pilot flies
through the boxes to follow the HITS route.
The applications are endless. For example, HITS
makes it easy to fly a precise search and rescue
grid—accurate to less than a meter.

Cobham Avionics
3D Synthetic Vision EFIS
Superior situational awareness, reduced workload, and greater command and control
Hover Vector
When groundspeed drops below 30 knots, the
Flight Path Marker on the Primary Flight Display
converts to a “bull’s-eye” ringed by concentric
circles that delineate 15- and 30-knot ground
speeds. An expanded version of the Hover
Vector can also be displayed on the MFD,
making it easier for pilots to quickly respond
to small changes in aircraft position. The Hover
Vector enhances productivity and control
during surveillance, long-line work, and other
precision procedures. It also provides invaluable
feedback to pilots in low-visibility conditions.
Helicopter TAWS (HTAWS)
Cobham’s Helicopter TAWS (HTAWS)
provides critical visual and audio cues when
terrain or obstacles present a hazard. Cobham’s
HTAWS offers configurable filters for predictive
terrain and obstruction alerting to minimize
nuisance alerts. A low-altitude mode provides
enhanced safety when operating at
lower-than-normal altitude.
• Forward-Looking Terrain Alerts
• Excessive Closure to Terrain
• Excessive Rate of Descent
• Sink Rate after Takeoff or on Missed Approach
1 The Cobham 3D Synthetic Vision EFIS provides numerous integrated capabilities and functionalities, simplifying panel for reduced pilot
workload while reducing box count to enable greater payload capacity.
Integrated Flight Management System
Unlike competitive flight systems, Cobham’s
Flight Management System (FMS) is fully
integrated in the EFIS, omitting the need
for extra components, thereby maximizing
valuable panel space and conserving critical
weight. It features an integrated GPS, graphical
mission planning, head-up implementation on
the PFD, and system redundancy. In addition,
the FMS supports all ARINC-424 leg types and
VNAV planning, and enables user-definable
approaches and special-use airspace.
ADS-B
Automatic Dependant Surveillance Broadcast
(ADS-B) datalink information on the MFD
monitors taxiway and runway traffic and—in
remote or mountainous terrain where there is
no radar coverage—provides greatly enhanced
pilot awareness. This improves safety in poor
visual conditions, lessens the risk of runway
incursions, and reduces the number of
instructions from ground-based controllers. In
addition, ADS-B supports weather products,
providing METAR and TAF information.
Night Vision Goggle (NVG) compatibility
The Cobham EFIS provides an edge when
flying nighttime police, rescue, surveillance,
and homeland security missions. NVG
compatibility—combined with the enhanced
situational awareness of 3D Synthetic Vision
and HTAWS—ensures the safest possible night
flying, without the need for additional
equipment or options.
