GRADE 1 WILLOW<br />
Grade 1 is the best willow used for producing “high end” retail cricket bats.<br />
Grade 1 willow bats will typically have six straight grains and a consistent clean face<br />
with only minor or no blemishes (there may be the odd blemish on the edge or<br />
back of the bat). These bats are used by Professional and First Team Club <strong>Cricket</strong>ers.<br />
GRADE 2 WILLOW<br />
Grade 2 is also a high quality willow, Grade 2 willow bats will typically have at least<br />
four straight grains however the blade will have some small blemishes or<br />
discolouration however the performance of the bat will be unaected.<br />
These bats are typically used by First and Second Team Club <strong>Cricket</strong>ers.<br />
GRADE 3 WILLOW<br />
Grade 3 is used for manufacturing most non-covered retail cricket bats under $200.<br />
Grade3 bats will have blemishes or imperfections on the blade of the bat and may<br />
have an irregular grain pattern which could make the bat less responsive than the<br />
higher grade willow bats. These bats will be used by the majority of Club <strong>Cricket</strong>ers.<br />
GRADE 4 WILLOW<br />
Grade 4 willow is normally used for manufacturing budget cricket bats which<br />
typically have a covering on the face of the bat to hide imperfections, blemishes<br />
and an irregular grain pattern, again these bat are less responsive than the<br />
higher grade willow bats and will normally be used by beginners.<br />
ENGLISH WILLOW<br />
English Willow is the best type of timber for cricket bats.<br />
The slower growing conditions of English Willow contributed to the<br />
increased performance from the sweet spot of the bat.<br />
KASHMIR WILLOW<br />
Kashmir Willow is a much more cost eective alternative to English Willow.<br />
Grade 1 Kashmir is often better then Grade 3 & Grade 4 English Willow and<br />
is perfect for Junior bats.<br />

Michael Clarke has risen to the top of Australian cricket’s list of first class players.<br />

In January <strong>2012</strong>, after a string of test centuries since becoming captain, Clarke became the first<br />
Australian batsman since Matthew Hayden in 2003 to score a triple hundred. He joined with Ricky<br />

329*. This match against India was the 100th test to be played at the SCG, and Clarke’s score was both<br />
the highest ever made in an Australia-India test and the highest ever achieved at the ground.<br />
His ability to be a leader and consistently put runs on the board has made him a perfect candidate to<br />

CHRIS GAYLE- SPARTAN AMBASSADOR<br />
A thrusting Jamaican left-hander, Gayle earned himself a black mark on<br />
his first senior tour to England in 2000 - where the new boys were felt to be<br />
insufficiently respectful of their elders. But a lack of respect, for opposition<br />
bowlers at least, has served Gayle well since then. Tall and imposing at<br />
the crease, he loves to carve through the covers off either foot, and has the<br />
ability to decimate the figures of even the thriftiest of opening bowlers.<br />
Chris played his first Twenty20 international (T20I) on<br />
February 16, 2006 against New Zealand and in 2007, he<br />
scored 117 runs off just 57 balls, in the opening match<br />
against South Africa at the International <strong>Cricket</strong> Council (ICC)<br />
World T20 Championship. He is the only batsman to have<br />
hit a century in the Twenty20 international and also holds<br />
the record of the highest innings in a T20I. As of 2008, Chris<br />
Gayle is the only cricketer to have hit centuries in all three<br />
formats of international cricket and has also been nominated<br />
for the Twenty20 International Performance of the Year.<br />

Joining the <strong>Spartan</strong> team in 2011 Mitchell<br />
has been behind our launch of new <strong>Cricket</strong><br />
bats and equipment.<br />
He also introduced a new fitness range<br />
exclusive to <strong>Spartan</strong> Sports this year.<br />
Mitchell has been part of the Australian<br />
<strong>Cricket</strong> program since he was selected for<br />
the Under 19 tour of England.<br />
After battling multiple injuries he has risen to be one of<br />
the most feared fast bowlers in the world.<br />
He made his test debut in 2007 against Sri Lanka and<br />
has played in over 40 tests since. His best bowling<br />
figures in a test match is 8/61 and his highest score with<br />
a bat is 123 not out against the South Africans in Cape Town.<br />
Mitchell has also been awarded the International <strong>Cricket</strong> Council’s 2009 “<strong>Cricket</strong>er of the Year”<br />
