Scottsdale Pen:
Write On, Baby
True pen addicts know that each writing
instrument is unique—the balance and
weight in your hand, the flow of the ink
at just the right angle, the glint of the
barrel. Scottsdale Pen, the 16-month-old
specialty shop at 7137 E. Stetson Drive
(just down the way from Cowboy Ciao),
has become an inky splash of heaven for
pen dependents. “Since we’re the only
diversified pen store in Scottsdale, we’ve
been growing nicely—and thank God
for that, huh?” says Jay Sadow, owner.
Sadow divulges that the year’s bestseller
on the high-end is Visconti’s black Divina,
designed with sublime twists and sterling
strips ($470 to $825). “There is nothing
on the market close to that in appearance,”
Sadow says. On the more affordable side,
longhand lovers are stocking up on
German Lamy models ($30 to $150),
sporting a minimalist look and
high performance. Drooling
ink, yet? For more info, call
Model T-Shirt = Instant Gratification
Sure, you can pick up a souvenir T-shirt—and some pretty funny
ones—to commemorate your trip to Downtown Scottsdale.
Even better, take your photos into Kactus Jock on Main
Street to emblazon a custom T in less time than it takes
to say “You’re too close to the Arizona Canal for a
nonswimmer—smile, and keep kicking!” The store’s
new high-def ink-jet apparel printer also creates vivid
images on hats, pants, bags and coasters. Plus, the
water-based textile ink is more eco-friendly than
other printing methods and gives fabrics a softer feel.
Wear your one-of-a-kind pieces proudly or overnight
them to jealous friends in windier cities. (Wedding
parties, take note of this keepsake/blackmail
opportunity!) Kactus Jock also has a
classic array of Arizona mementos such
as ASU sweatshirts, Kick Ass Salsa, metal
art and cactus plants. For more info, call
480.945.6691; visit www.kactusjock.com, or
just walk into 7233 E. Main St. and watch
your custom design become a wearable.
