Construction<br />
The components should be mounted as shown in figure A.3.<br />
The circuit should be shown on the lid of the box as in figure A.4.<br />

4 Direct vision spectroscope (Topics 4 and 6)<br />
The spectroscope can be made out of any hollow tube of a suitable size. One<br />
end of the tube is sealed except for a narrow slit, and a replica grating put over<br />
the other end.<br />
Materials required<br />
Tube about 12cm long and 1-2 cm in diameter is suitable. The wider the tube,<br />
the longer the slit can be made and the deeper the spectrum. Dexion Speed-<br />
Frame electrical conduit or an empty thermometer or cigar case is suitable.<br />
Kitchen aluminium foil.<br />
Replica diffraction grating. Sheets, 25 x 20 cm are available from Proops<br />
