Marine Arm Swivel Joints
The heart of the Syltone Marine Inc’s. marine arms are the swivel joints.
The Syltone Marine Inc’s., marine arm swivel joints have earned a
reputation for capability and performance worldwide. Extremely reliable
and low maintenance, they feature:
• Replaceable stainless steel ball races which ensures longer service life.
• Stainless steel inlaid seal faces which prevent seal face pitting and corrosion.
• Split-flanged design to allow for easy seal maintenance and replacement.
• A special weather seal to provide pressure relief from over lubrication and protect bearings
from dust, dirt, and other contaminants.
• A series of grease fittings which permits thorough lubrication of the entire raceway
circumference, helping to decrease maintenance intervals and reduce downtime.
Marine Arm Accessories
Electro-hydraulic Control System with Positive Control
The control system is electro-hydraulic with power supplied by an explosion-resistant, electric hydraulic
pump power train. The arm can be controlled from a central control console, or from controls mounted
on the riser tower. Indicator lights on the central control console monitor system operation and warning
functions, with arm movement controlled through a selector switch. Hydraulic motors, driving through
speed reducers, actuate the inboard and outboard arms. Traverse motion is by hydraulically powered
action. By operating the three directional control valves, the arm can be made to extend, retract, or
traverse. The operator maintains positive control at all times as the arm is maneuvered into position. The
valves which control the arm are throttling valves which enable smooth and positive operation. Once
hookup is accomplished, the hydraulic control is switched to neutral and the arm can easily follow the
movements of the vessel.
Pendant Control
The Pendant Controller provides vessel deck or dockside control for all operational functions of the
loading arm. It is compact and convenient, utilizing a small, lightweight helical cable that may be
plugged in to the central control console.
Manual Couplers
Manual couplers may be installed on the outboard end of the marine arms. Rapid vessel manifold flange
connections are possible by eliminating the studs, nuts, and gaskets normally required for hookup.
These couplers meet U.S. Coast Guard requirements for marine vessels and shore side installations
with ANSI 150# and 300# flanges. They are available in 6” to 16” sizes.
Hydraulic Quick Disconnect Couplers (QDC)
The hydraulic Quick Disconnect Couplers are designed to connect marine loading arms to a ship’s
manifold without the use of bolts , nuts, and gaskets. The coupler is activated by hydraulic motors
driving clamping jaws that are similar to “C” clamps.
Style 9 Bi-Pod Support Jack
Most 12” and larger marine arms require a Bi-Pod Support Jack to partially support the weight of the
product being transferred and help distribute the weight away from the vessel’s manifold. The Bi-Pod
Support Jack is located on the lower elbow of the Style 9 triple swivel assembly.
Single Stage Overtravel Alarm System
The Overtravel Alarm System is designed to warn personnel by activating an audio and visual alarm
when a loading arm is about to exceed the designed reach range envelope and enter into an unsafe
operating condition.
Piggyback Vapor return lines
Certain toxic or hazardous products require a vapor recovery system, or a separate piping system
designed to prevent toxins from being released into the atmosphere. The product is carried through the
larger product arm with the smaller arm, or vapor line, attached “piggyback” style. This economical
design saves dock space, eliminates the need for a separate vapor and product marine arm, and
reduces the time required for hookup and disconnect.
Access Ladders and work Platforms
Access ladders complying with OSHA standards are available on the riser tower and inboard arm
providing access to the riser, trunnion and apex swivel joints for inspection and maintenance
