HOW TO MEASURE FOR YOUR INTERIOR SHUTTERS Shutters can be installed on virtually any window, French door’s or patio sliding door’s. They can also be used effectively as room dividers fitted on tracks. They usually cannot be fitted where the window / door opens inwards, or where there is a false ceiling or fixed pelmet that prohibits the shutter from being opened. Measure all widths and heights to the nearest millimetre. Good practice is to measure width then height. Always measure from the bottom to the top. Carefully record your measurements for each window using a good steel tape measure and follow the guidelines below. OUTSIDE RECESS We need the outside measurement including a frame. The frame is generally 38mm on each side. The fixings for the frame should go directly into the wall from the flat surface of the shutters when they are closed Measure height and width. Check that window is level in 2 directions and also square and plumb. If not allow for this in your measuring by adding sufficient space for a square frame to fit over. It is sensible to measure at several points to ensure the window opening is not bowed. If the shutters go right down to the floor check the thickness of the skirting board to allow the shutters to fold back. For Sash windows measure from the outside of the bead on either side. For height, measure from window sill to the under edge of the architrave From the back of where the frame will fix to the wall check that there are no handles or obstructions that protrude beyond this level (They would stop the louvers from opening). If there is you will need to measure this protrusion and let us know and we can increase the depth of the frame to accommodate depending on louver size. Check that there is nothing protruding out from the window (handles, locks, alarms etc.). Depending on the louver size will determine how much room is required. Then indicate how you want the shutters to open LLRR would be two hinging left and two hinging right. Please note that although two windows may look identical it is safer to measure each individual window. These shutters are made to measure and will be made to fit your measurement. Choose: 1. Material: Phoenix, Seattle, Vancouver, Hollywood 2. Colour 3. Louver size or Solid 4. Choose style: Café, Full Height or Tier on Tier 5. Whether to have a tilt rod in the middle of each panel or at the side (and which side) or to have a hidden (from inside) tilt rod not available with 32 or 47 mm louver 6. Decide if you want a mid rail across the shutter. If so measure from the bottom to the mid point of the mid rail. Note the mid rail is then positioned as near to that as possible dependent on the louver size. 7. INSIDE RECESS Measure height and width. Check that window is Square and plumb. If not square measure from corner to corner of the window and if it is more than 10mm different we would recommend placing the shutters outside the recess. It is sensible to measure at several points to ensure the window opening is not bowed. Take the smallest measurement and if out of square reduce the measurement accordingly. The product will normally be supplied with a full frame but if for instance you don’t want the frame to be on the window sill then let us know. Again if shutters go right down to the floor check thickness of skirting board. Decide on how deep you want the shutters into the recess. The easiest frame option to fit is a Z frame which comes over the edge of the recess (but still only measure the inside of the recess) and hides any imperfections in the corner plastering. (Particularly useful if your plaster is not straight). Measure from the back of the frame to any obstructions e.g. handles. For other types of openings like Patio doors or French windows we do recommend that you leave it to someone with experience as there are many things to trip you up. It could end up being much cheaper to employ someone who has already learnt how to fit them perfectly. WARNING!! Accurate measurements are essential for a proper installation.
