founder of Fibrecrafts, Anna Bowers, 

whose vision has led us from her kitchen 

table top in 1982 to what the business

WEAVING 



Weaving Basics 


Woven cloth is created by crossing 

two sets of yarns perpendicular to 

each other. One set of the yarns are 

called the warp and the other set, 

which crosses over and under, are the 

weft. When the row of the weft is 

pushed up against the previous row, 

a solid woven cloth is created. This 

is achieved with a comb on a basic 

loom, and with an integrated beater 

and reed on larger looms.

Tapestry Weaving 


Tapestry is weaving as art, the choice 

of yarns and the simple techniques 

leave you free to design. Weaving 

with different materials, such as paper 

yarns, fibres and beads will produce 

texture on the finished item. 

The simple under and over of the 

yarns, and the beating down of the 

threads creates a tight, robust fabric 

for wall hangings and rugs. 


A continuous warp thread is wrapped taut 

around a frame. The warp threads are 

separated with a cross warp tied as in the 

photo below. To make the tapestry, a weft 

yarn is woven over and under across the warp 

threads and beaten down with a fork or comb 

to close any gaps.

Metallised Yarn 

A special yarn in gold or silver finish, made by 

3rd generation Japanese craftsmen. The yarn is 

made from real metallised silver and is soft and 

supple to the hand and specifically designed for 

hand weaving Songket fabrics in Malaysia as well 

as the high end of the Kimono market in Japan.

Water Soluble Monofilament Yarn 

A 90 denier yarn which shrinks by 40% 

when placed in water at 40°C, and dissolves 

completely at 70°C. It can be used for Shibori 

or to support a low strength warp or weft 

yarn, and to stabilise open weaves. The low 

temperature for dissolving means that even 

fine woven silk will not lose lustre. Complex 

textures can be developed by allowing the 

yarn to shrink, or two and three dimensional 

structures assembled before removing all traces 

of the original yarn superstructure.

Light Reflective Yarn 

Coated with reflective material on both sides, 

this 1mm wide PVC plastic strip is strong 

enough to stitch with and used in both warp 

and weft. The yarn can be ironed with a 

cool iron but will shrink when a hot iron is 

applied. The shrinkage does not affect the 

reflective quality and can be used to create 

special weaving effects. We recommend 

experimentation and testing before starting 

your project. The yarn, which presents as 

a pale grey reflects to a silver white and is 

extremely difficult to photograph.

High Twist Silk Yarn 

Unbalanced silk yarns made especially for 

creating collapse fabric. They come as a pair, 

one S twist and one Z twist, and when they 

are woven together, with one as the warp and 

the other the weft, they release an energy 

which causes the fabric to collapse after being 

released from the loom, creating the crepe

The Louët Megado Floor Loom, pictured below, 

is to special order only. You will be asked to pay

The loom is made from ash hardwood and has 

a lacquered finish. The castle section is pre 

assembled and the remainder of the loom has

• All our fibres have been cleaned and 

combed and are ready for use. 

• The Silk Cocoon Strippings, Throwsters 

Waste, Reeled Silk, and Silk Carrier Rods still 

retain the sericin ‘glue’ which is emitted by the 

silk worm to keep the cocoon intact. 

• A selection of silk fibres are hand-dyed 

which means the colours will vary from batch 

to batch. 

• The dyed Merino Wool Tops are industrially 

dyed to ensure that the colours remain 

consistent, this does not affect their felting 

performance. 

• Fibre with a Bradford count of 60 or higher 

will felt readily when combined with water, 

heat and alkali, such as soap (plus a degree of 

elbow grease!). The Merino sheep produces 

a super fine wool which can have a Bradford 

count as high as 110. The George Weil range 

of Merino wool tops have a Bradford count 

of 64. 

• The Bradford count, where we know it, 

for the wool fibres on the previous page 

is indicated by the number following their 

product name. 

• There is sometimes variation between 

batches in the natural fibres and we

Transforming a fibre into 

a yarn using these quality tools

Silk Paper Making 


Silk paper making or silk fusion is 

a papier-mâché type technique for 

creating textured paper/fabric or 3d 

objects using silk fibres combined 

with an adhesive medium. 


• Protect surfaces with plastic sheeting. 

• Spread the fibres in 2-3 thin layers, 

perpendicular to each other, between two 

sheets of nylon mesh netting. 

• Dampen thoroughly with Silk Paper 

Medium or with a solution of CMC paste (add 

CMC powder to a measure of very hot water 

and stir until dissolved, top up with cold water, 

stir well and allow to cool). 

• Work the medium into the fibres with 

a sponge, ensuring the fibre is thoroughly 

wetted and remove the excess with a clean, 

dry sponge. 

• Peel away the top sheet of netting or leave 

in place for a more textured paper. 

• Place on a cooling tray to dry and then 

carefully peel off the back sheet of netting to 

reveal the handmade silk paper.

Paper Making 


A handmade paper can be created in 

a number of ways... 


• A sturdy food blender is helpful for making 

the pulp. Do not use the blender for preparing 

food once it has been used for this process. 

• Recycled paper is only as good as the paper 

it is made from. Choose a good quality, acid 

free paper or use Calcium Carbonate to help 

promote an alkaline pulp. 

• Plant fibres, such as grass or onion skins, 

can be chopped up and boiled in a solution 

of soda ash until the lignin is separated from 

the cellulose fibre. Lignin is the substance 

that binds the cells and fibres together in the 

plant and will ultimately rot paper if it is not 

removed. The remaining cellulose fibre can be 

chopped smaller in a blender to make a pulp. 

• Combined the pulp with coloured pigments, 

dyes, fillers and other fibres for texture and 

colour. The Selectasine pigments are ideal for 

colouring papers, see page 75.

POLYMER CLAY 



Polymer Clay 


Polymer clay is a highly versatile, nontoxic, 

modelling material that can be 

hardened by baking in the home oven. 

Jewellery makers can use polymer 

clay to good effect, as most brands 

produce a translucent clay which can 

be used on its own or mixed with 

colours to make delicate translucent 

pastel shades and faux stones. 


First soften the clay with the heat from your 

hands. The clay quickly becomes malleable and 

is easy to roll and shape. A simple bead can be 

rolled in the hands or uniform shaped and sized 

beads can be made on a bead rolling machine 

Add a hole with a large needle, place on an 

oven proof dish and bake in the oven. 

General health and safety precautions should be 

used. It is essential that the manufacturers heating 

instructions are closely followed and that the room 

is well ventilated. Hands should be washed after 

handling the clay and the same cookware used to 

bake the clay should not be used again for food. 

Polymer clay can be mixed with other colours 

to create subtle blends which can then be made 

into canes. Canes can be as sophisticated as 

the imagination will allow, and when thinly sliced 

can be used to decorated the surface of a bead. 

Super Sculpey 

Used by movie animation studios and 

professionals worldwide for prototypes, scale 

models, fine sculpture and all kinds of dolls. 

This easy to condition polymer clay requires 

minimal hand kneading to prepare for use. The 

finest detail is achievable and added clay can 

be smoothed in seamlessly to this translucent 

pink-beige clay. Bake in an oven proof dish in a 

domestic oven at just 130°C for 15 minutes per 

6mm of thickness. When baked the clay has a

Polymer Clays, 

Doll Making 


There are a number of clays 

formulated specifically for making 

dolls which come is a choice of skin 

tone colours. These include FIMO 

Puppen, FIMO Puppen Miniature, 

Cernit Doll Collection and Sculpey 

Living Doll. The clays have excellent 

smoothing quality and bake to a 

porcelain like finish which can be 

painted when baked. 

For larger dolls of 30cm tall or 

more, it is best to make just the 

head, forearms and lower legs out of 

polymer clay and create a soft body 

from fabric and polyester stuffing. If 

the head is more than about 25mm 

thick, you should use an armature 

(internal core or support) to prevent 

the clay cracking. This can be a rolled 

ball of foil or a ball of baked Sculpey 

Ultra Light clay. 

FIMO Puppen 

Formulated for making dolls, this polymer 

clay has excellent smoothing quality and the 

flesh-like surface is very strong with a porcelain 

shimmer after baking. It is ideal for both 

beginners and professionals. Blend with other 

polymer clays to increase the choice of skin 

tones. Bake at 130°C.

Firing Art Clay 

Silver Clay 

You can learn how to work with 

silver clay from a book, through the 

web, or by going on a course. Here’s 

how to fire the clay using a blow 

torch or gas hob. 

• Allow the Art Clay Silver clay to dry 

thoroughly, 24 hours for smaller, thinner pieces 

and up to 48 hours for larger pieces. 

• The clay dries to a grey/white colour and is 

quite brittle. Remove imperfections carefully 

with fine files and sanding pads. 

• The Art Clay Silver clay needs to be fired 

until it begins to smoke and burn off the 

binder and then glow orange. This can take a 

couple of minutes. When the item is glowing, 

maintain the heat source for a further 60-90 

seconds (and up to 2.5 minutes depending on 

the size of the piece). 

• Gas hob firing requires a piece of metal 

mesh on which to place the dried Art Clay 

Silver clay. Push the clay onto the parts of the 

mesh that glow with the most heat. 

• Place Art Clay Silver clay items on a 

ceramic tile or a fibre brick when firing with a 

blow torch. 

• The fired item will be very hot and must be 

left to cool for 20 minutes. 

• Use a wire brush to clean off the white 

surface and fine sanding pads. 

• Burnish the surface of the silver piece to 

give it a mirror like finish, leave in a matt state, 

or treat with Liver of Sulphur for an antique 

effect.

be used for creating paste jewellery, 

setting inclusions such as glitter or 

flower petals, coating or glazing, and 

on dense fabric, leather, card and 

paper to create a magnifying ‘lense’.

Deka Cristal 

A water-based transparent paint for painting 

on glass, ceramics, wood, paper, cardboard, 

stone, plaster, metal, foil and more. It is also 

suitable for airbrushing and dipping. With its 

high gloss and durability it is also light fast and 

water resistant. The paint can be diluted with 

water by up to 5% to create further shades and 

brushes clean easily under running water. The

Screen Printing 


In Screen printing a stencil is 

placed onto a screen of fine mesh 

fabric stretched taut over a frame. 

Coloured ink is poured onto the 

screen to one side of the stencil and 

then dragged across the stencil using 

a squeegee. 

The ink is pushed through the fine 

mesh with a squeegee and transferred 

to the fabric or paper beneath and 

the areas masked by the stencil 

remain untouched. 

To make prints with more than 

one colour, a new stencil is used 

obscuring or revealing areas of the 

previously printed material.

along a length of fabric to create 

unique printed material for curtains,

Selectasine Screen 

Printing System 


The printing system is economic, 

simple and flexible in use. It requires 

a binder (there is an acrylic-based, 

standard binder for general printing 

onto light fabrics and 5 special effect 

binders, each fulfilling a specific 

function) and a pigment. 

Prints are made permanent on fabric 

by fixing with heat which provides an 

outstanding fastness and soft finish. 

Adding water to the solution allows 

you to paint or spray onto paper and 

board. The dilute solution can still 

be used on fabric but must be tested 

for wash fastness as the binder will 

become less effective. 


• Estimate the amount of binder you require. 

1kg of binder SF20 will cover approximately a 

2.8m square of print area. 

• Stir your chosen pigment well before 

measuring. The colours are concentrated and 

should be used at a rate of up to 50g per kg of 

binder. An average of 35g will give full shade 

(Luminous colours should be used at a rate of 

80-120g per kg). 

• Black TT Pigment is prone to gelling if the 

concentration of the pigment is more than 2% (2g 

per 100g binder). In order to get a good strong 

black, a 5% concentration is generally required. 

To prevent gelling, add a salt solution (10g salt to 

100ml water) a little at a time. 

• Carefully add the pigment to give the 

strength of colour required. Do not overload 

the binder as surplus will be left on the surface 

of the material. 

• Fix the print when dry. Heat speeds up and 

completes a chemical “cross-linking” reaction. 

Generally, fixing can be completed with an iron 

at 150°C for 4-5 minutes on the reverse of the 

print, depending on the type of fabric and the 

amount of pigment used.

Selectasine 

Pigment Colours 

The pigments are supplied in a liquid 

state as “pigment in dispersion”, 

i.e. the pigment is still a solid, 

though minute, and has not been 

dissolved into the liquid (see 

left for method for mixing with 

binder). Discharge bleaching agent 

and the perchlorethylene, used in 

dry cleaning, can discolour some 

pigments. e.g. a red, after treatment 

might look “brownish”. The colour 

chart shows: * colours fast to dry 

cleaning in perchlorethylene, † 

colours dischargeable using a 

discharge agent. 

These pigments are also effective 

for colouring handmade papers and 

should be used in conjunction with 

Cationic Retention Aid which helps 

to bind the pigment to the fibres

Speedball Inks 


The Speedball Acrylic Screen Inks 

have been specifically formulated for 

use on paper, wood and cardboard. 

The Speedball Fabric Screen Printing 

Inks are for use on cotton, polyester 

and blends, linen, rayon and other 

synthetic fibres (but not nylon). 

They also work well on paper and 

cardboard. The colours are wash fast 

to 40ºC when heat-set with an iron 

on the reverse of the print. 

The inks do not contain solvents, are 

non-toxic and non-flammable and 

safe for industrial use, at school and 

in workshops, or in the home. 

Speedball Acrylic Screen Inks 

Permanent inks for use on paper and board 

which give a pigmented, matte-finish. The inks

Speedball Fabric Screen Inks

Stencil Making... 


A mask is needed to block out areas 

of the screen to stop the ink printing 

in the areas you define. These masks, 

or stencils can be created using a 

variety of methods. 

Beginners may choose to use a stencil 

cut from paper, card or acetate, or a 

design can be set beneath the screen 

which can then be blocked out using 

either Drawing Fluid or Screen Filler. 

Screens can also be prepared with a 

light sensitive Diazo photo emulsion 

and Sensitizer to create high contrast 

images as described below. 

Diazo Light Sensitive Masks 

An exciting method of screen printing using fine 

line drawings and photographic half tone prints. 

The resist is prepared by mixing the photo 

emulsion and sensitizer which is spread on both 

sides of the screen. The screen is allowed to 

dry thoroughly away from light and heat and a 

high contrast image on acetate sheet is placed 

on the screen. A photoflood light source is

Fibrecrafts Heat Transfer Paints 

Heat transfer paints formulated from disperse

Making Your Own 

Paints 

The Selectasine binders and pigments 

(see page 76) can be combined in 

different ratios, and with water, to 

make paints. The binder is activated 

by heat and bonds the pigment 

colour to the surface of the fabric. It 

is therefore important that enough 

binder is incorporated to ensure the 

paint is wash fast. Too much binder 

will effect the drape of the fabric. 

If the paint is to be used for painting 

scenery, or items that do not require 

washing, less binder and more water 

can be used. Experimentation and 

note keeping is recommended. 

Jacquard Neopaque 

Brightly coloured opaque acrylics for using on 

dark or light coloured fabrics from denim to 

silk, as well as leather, wood, canvas, polymer 

clay and paper. These paints are suitable for 

printing, painting, stencilling and marbling, 

diluting with water where desired. They are

Silk paints have been formulated to 

resemble dyes, they are fluid and 

easy to fix. Setting the paints with 

the heat from an iron will make them 

wash fast up to 60°C. 


• Pin the silk to the frame by placing the 

first pin in the centre of the farthest edge and 

then in each corner. Pull the silk fabric across 

the frame and place pins on the opposite side. 

Repeat this on the remaining sides. 

• Using an auto fade pen, sketch out your 

design. The ink from the auto fade pen 

will wash away with the wet paint, or fade 

completely within 24 hours. Keep the shapes 

simple and bold. 

• Go over the outlines of the design with 

a gutta outliner, this will take a little practice 

to perfect. The outliner will sink through 

the surface of the fabric to form a barrier, 

remember to close all ‘loops’ to stop the 

paint from escaping beyond the boundaries. 

Be confident, it doesn’t matter if the outliner 

does not follow the design exactly. Allow the 

outliner to dry. 

• Paint with light colours first. A second 

application will intensify the colour. 

• When dry heat set the paints as per the 

manufacturer’s instructions.

Steam Setting 

When painting silk fabric with silk 

or acid dyes, it is necessary to set 

the dyes so that the colours become 

permanent and wash fast on the 

fabric. The dyes can be set by the 

heat of steam generated by a steamer. 

The painted silk is allowed to dry 

thoroughly and then wrapped in 

steamer paper to separate the layers 

of silk. It is then place in the steamer 

for at least 30 minutes. When the 

steamer has cooled, the silk is taken 

out and rinsed with Dupont Silk 

Wash to remove surplus dye.

Steam-fix dyes give superior result 

and are made from mixes of Acid

dyes colour all the fibre and allow 

light to transmit and reflect from the 

surface of the silk fibres in the fabric. 

Silk dyes flow easily and readily the 

moment the loaded brush makes 

contact with the silk. Using a gutta

either a silk, wool or polyester warp 

and a cotton or viscose weft. The 

devorant gels are able to ‘burn-out’ 

or sculpt away the cotton or viscose

Your Safety 

It is clear that there are sensible 

precautions to be taken when 

handling ALL dyes and chemicals, 

particularly as powders: 

• Avoid inhaling dusts as they can produce 

an asthma type reaction. Wear a dust mask 

when handling fine powders and aerosols on a 

regular basis. Use in a well ventilated room. 

• Avoid splashing solutions into the eyes, 

swallowing the materials or prolonged skin 

contact. A simple ‘non-contact’ approach (wear 

gloves, goggles and overalls where necessary) 

plus normal, good hygiene is sufficient 

precaution for the occasional user. 

• Keep work areas clean and dust free. Wash 

hands and equipment regularly. 

• Store in clearly labelled containers well 

away from children, pets and foodstuffs. Treat 

with the same caution as domestic poisons (e.g. 

strong cleaners, bleaches or medicines). 

• Dispose of spent solutions containing 

residues of the dyes responsibly. Dilute and 

pour onto waste land or into the sewage 

system. They have no known effect on the 

environment when used in the quantities 

recommended in the literature.

potential hazards and risks, safe 

handling requirements and the actions 

to be taken in the event of fire, spill 

or exposure. 

Acid Dyes Go to website > 

Acid dyes are best used for dyeing 

protein fibres such as silk, wool, 

camel, fur, cashmere and some 

synthetics such as nylon. The dyes 

themselves are not acidic, the word 

acid merely referring to the distilled 

vinegar (acetic acid) which is used 

to set them. Along with vinegar, the 

dyes are set in hot water, with the 

heat from steam or in the microwave. 

Acid Dye Bath: 

• The dye bath must be heat proof, of glass, 

enamel or stainless steel (do not use cooking 

pots). Measure warm water into the dye bath. 

The quantity of water is not critical except 

that for even results there must be plenty of 

room for circulation. A typical ratio is 30 times 

as much water as fibre i.e. 3 litres water for 

100g dry weight fibre. 

• Use 5g Citric Acid to each litre of water 

used, or add 100ml distilled vinegar per litre of 

water (half the quantity if dyeing synthetics). 

• Submerge dampened material in the bath 

and soak for 10 minutes. Remove it and 

then add the dye stock solution (see product 

details) and stir well. Return the material and 

gently move around the bath for 10 minutes. 

• Heat the bath to hand hot. Remove from 

heat and allow to stand for 10 minutes. Stir 

and return to heat. Maintain at a simmer 

just on boiling for 20 minutes but DO NOT 

STIR or allow to boil fast enough to cause 

movement (and hence felting if dyeing wool). 

• Allow to cool and rinse well. 


Fibrecrafts Acid Dye Kit 

The kit contains sufficient yellow, red, blue dye 

and toner to dye up to 3kg fibres, yarns or 

fabrics, 4 x 10ml syringes, a 100ml measuring 

beaker and stirrer, plus full instructions. Use 

with Citric Acid or Distilled (white) vinegar to 

set these dyes.

Jacquard Acid Dyes 

Premixed colours for protein fibres such as 

silk, wool, angora, cashmere, feathers and 

most nylons. The acid dyes can be applied in 

a dye bath, sprayed, painted with, or used for

water and 4 table spoons of distilled (white)

Fibrecrafts Acid Dyes 

Hot water dyes for use on protein fibres 

such as wool and silk. 0.25g of dye powder 

is required per 100g of dry fabric for pastel 

shades, and up to 2.0g dye powder for deep

dry fabric, first dissolve the required amount 

of dye powder in a little cold water. Combine 

with 500ml cold water to make a stock solution 

(see left for further dyeing instructions).

Citric Acid Crystals 

A weak organic acid used as an acidifier in 

dyeing to alter the pH level of the dye bath. It 

is an odourless alternative to white vinegar 

when immersion dyeing with acid dyes (for a

or 25g = 1oz in 5 litres = 1 gallon approx). If

Discharge Printing 


Dischargeable acid dyes are easily 

removed from fabric using a discharge 

paste. The paste can be combined 

with Illuminating Acid Dyes to replace 

the colour as it discharges.

They have a low resistance to discharge pastes.

Procion MX Dyes 


Procion MX dyes (commonly known 

as Fibre Reactive dyes) have been 

formulated for use on cellulose fibres 

such as cotton, linen and viscose. 

They are a cold water dye, making 

them suitable for Batik, and set 

with soda ash. The addition of salt 

helps to disperse the dye particles 

so that colour is better absorbed. 

Adding a solution of Urea increases 

the solubility of the dyes, allowing 

a longer reaction time and deeper 

colours, most useful when printing. 

Procion MX Dye Bath: 

• Measure cold water into a bucket (3 litres 

per 100g dry weight of fibre), add the dye 

stock solution (see product details) and stir. 

• Add the clean wetted fabric (wrung out), 

ensure fully submerged, and leave to stand for 

15 minutes, stirring occasionally. 

• Add 40g of common salt for every litre 

of water (having first dissolved it in a little 

water) gradually over the next 10 minutes (the 

salt pushes the dye into the fabric, helping to 

create an even, rich colour). 

• Add 10g of soda ash for every litre of water 

(having first dissolved it in a little hot water) 

and leave for 1 hour, stirring occasionally. 

• Wash and rinse well 

Procion MX Dye Painted, Sprayed or Printed: 

The dye can be applied to fabric with a paint 

brush, dropper or spray bottle. The fabric is 

first soaked in a solution of soda ash (5g soda 

ash for each litre of warm water). For tie-dye, 

first tie the fabric, soak it in the solution and 

wring out. Do the same for Batik but allow the 

fabric to dry thoroughly so that the wax can be 

applied. Add a small amount of Urea to the dye 

as it acts as a humectant and keeps the fibres 

damp for longer, allowing a greater reaction 

time for the dye. Combine dye, Urea and 

Manutex (sodium alginate) thickener to make 

the dye suitable for printing. 

Fibrecrafts Procion MX Dyes 

Cold water dyes for use on natural fibres 

such as cotton and silk. 0.5g of dye powder 

is required per 100g of dry fabric for pastel 

shades, and up to 4.0g dye powder for deep 

shades such as navy and black. To dye 100g of

P.F.D (Prepared 

for Dyeing) 

When buying fabric you may occasionally 

come across the term P.F.D or Prepared for 

Dyeing. This means that no starches, sizing or 

finishes have been used on the fabric as these 

treatments, including optical whiteners, will 

interfere with the absorption and therefore the 

effectiveness of dye. 

Although your fabric has been sold as ‘dressing 

free’ it should still be prepared for dyeing 

because it will have attracted grease or dirt 

during handling. Another problem to be aware 

of is residue from deodorants and body lotions. 

Fibres and yarns will have been ‘contaminated’ 

in a similar way to fabric, and wool fibres 

may still retain some of the lanolin (a waxy 

substance secreted by the sebaceous glands of 

the sheep). 

Any residue on material will potentially act as a 

resist to repel dyes, paints and printing inks. 

Synthrapol 

We recommend that all materials are rinsed 

out in a solution of Synthrapol which is a nonionic 

detergent and does not leave the alkaline 

residue usually left by household detergents. 

This product does not contain sodium 

carbonate which contributes to colours fading, 

and is often found in other detergents. 

Use 5ml of Synthrapol to 2-3 litres of water 

for each 100g of material and stir gently over a 

15 minute period (take extra care not to over 

agitate wool as this will felt the fibre). Rinse 

thoroughly in warm water and your fabric, 

fibres or yarns are now Prepared for Dyeing. 

Synthrapol can also be used after dyeing to 

prevent back staining by removing colour which 

has not combined with the fabric. Rinse the 

finished item in a solution of half a teaspoon to 

5 litres water. 

Make a more concentrated solution of up to 2 

tablespoons to 5 litres of water when boiling 

out batik wax, and the same quantity in cold 

water for cleaning fleece.

Mordant Pack 

Materials can be pre-soaked in a mordant 

and left damp prior to dyeing or the mordant

Lokta Colours 

Handmade in Nepal from a community 

enterprise whose central aim is to further the 

economic and physical health of its workers. 

Lokta paper is acid-free and immensely durable, 

with a characteristic sheen and texture. No 

trees are destroyed in its making, since the 

Daphne bush regenerates after stripping. Bright, 

vibrant colours and slightly lumpy surface 

texture are the hallmarks of this familiar paper.

Placing an order 

through the website... 

We’ve tried to make ordering through our website as 

simple as possible. Here’s how: 

Go to www.georgeweil.com and locate your craft 

materials via ‘Browse by Materials’, ‘Browse by Craft’ or 

‘Browse by Brand’. Alternatively find products through 

the ‘Search’ facility at the top of the screen. 

Choose a product and enter the quantity you require, 

then click on ‘Add to Basket’. Continue until you have 

completed your selection. 

When you have completed your order, go to the 

‘Shopping Basket’ and click on ‘Proceed to Checkout’. 

The next screen will give you the option to ‘Login’ 

(if you have ordered from the website previously) or 

‘Create an Account’. Creating an account requires you 

to provide us with contact information such as your 

name, address, telephone number and email address. 

You will also be given the choice to opt in to our 

email news letter. 

Once you have completed registration, you can proceed 

through the ‘Check Out’ to select a payment option: 

• pay now with a credit/debit card - you will proceed 

to a secure payment page hosted by SagePay. For 

your security, we do not receive any of your card 

information. This is processed by your credit/debit card 

issuer and you will be asked to validate your purchase 

by entering the password you have registered with them. 

• pay later with a credit/debit card - you can 

telephone us with your payment details quoting the 

order number. 

• pay later with a cheque - you can send us a cheque 

quoting the order number.

after you take delivery. Your cancellation must be 

in writing, either by letter or email, and the cost of 

returning the goods will remain your responsibilty. 

The goods must be returned undamaged and unused 

so that they can be resold at the full price. You will 

receive a full refund of the product(s) cost within 30 

days, or if preferred, a credit to your account. 

This guarantee cannot be extended to items that have 

been made to your specification, or for non-stock items 

that have been ordered to your specific request.

when expected. Although, next working day delivery is 

not guaranteed, there is rarely a delay. 

Parcels sent by our courier company can be traced 

through their tracking system. Call or email us with 

your concerns and we will investigate. 

Do not accept parcels that appear to be damaged and 

notify us immediately if you have refused delivery or 

received a damaged parcel. 

If you do take delivery it is advisable to sign for goods 

as ‘unexamined’. Should the contents be damaged, you 

will need to answer enquiries and keep the packaging 

as evidence, otherwise we cannot accept responsibility
