This report identifies three priority areas for <strong>future</strong> <strong>in</strong>vestment – the development of a national<br />
<strong>research</strong> agenda <strong>and</strong> national <strong>in</strong>dicators of recidivism; improv<strong>in</strong>g capacity through improv<strong>in</strong>g<br />
the quality of adm<strong>in</strong>istrative databases (<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g l<strong>in</strong>kage) <strong>and</strong> positively enabl<strong>in</strong>g access to<br />
the data by <strong>research</strong>ers; <strong>and</strong> improv<strong>in</strong>g the value of recidivism for policy development by<br />
improv<strong>in</strong>g methodological clarity <strong>and</strong> rigour.<br />
Investments <strong>in</strong> some key areas of <strong>research</strong> are likely to generate important f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>gs for public<br />
policy <strong>and</strong> crime prevention <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g:<br />

develop<strong>in</strong>g recidivism prediction models for specific offender populations<br />
focus<strong>in</strong>g recidivism <strong>research</strong> on emerg<strong>in</strong>g areas of crime such as white collar crime,<br />
transnational crime <strong>and</strong> cybercrime<br />
• greater <strong>in</strong>vestment <strong>in</strong> evaluat<strong>in</strong>g the number <strong>and</strong> variety of crime prevention <strong>and</strong> reduction<br />
programs operat<strong>in</strong>g across <strong>Australia</strong> with a commitment to publish evaluation results, both<br />
positive <strong>and</strong> negative.<br />
