INTRODUCTION
T
his handbook is the latest revision of the Kingdom of Trimaris SCA rapier rules, rules that have been
slowly evolving since the Board of Directors formally recognized rapier combat as an ancillary
activity of the SCA in September of A.S. XIV (1979). Within these pages are a lot of experience,
effort and knowledge gathered from all corners of the Known World. But keep in mind that no person is
perfect and therefore no rule set produced by a person is perfect. As you will hear over and over, nothing
replaces common sense and good judgment. These rules attempt to codify the game as played today, to
standardize the language we use, avoid ambiguities and allow us some common ground with respect to the
game we play.
These rules set fundamental standards for rapier combat in the Kingdom of Trimaris: SCA. In keeping with
Corpora, Trimaris retains the right to add rules, which establish more restrictive standards. All fighters and
marshals of Trimaris are responsible for knowing these rules.
Rules are designed to promote safe rapier combat in the Kingdom of Trimaris. However, no matter how clear
or accurate, rules cannot replace common sense, good judgment, and concern for the participants. If a
question arises when applying these standards, choose the answer that promotes the greatest degree of safety
for all participants.
I hope that everyone enjoys the new opportunities opening before them to further their study of swordplay.
Until we can cross blades or sit down to a conversation, I remain yours in joyful service.
