GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE NEWS FROM LIANNE LARSON

It is hard to believe it is July already!

The golf course is recovering very well from

the spring green, tee and fairway aeration.

This season, due to a very active golf calendar,

we chose to solid tine aerate all greens

and forgo the more aggressive traditional

core aeration. This allowed the putting surface

to heal quicker. They will however;

have to be aggressively core aerified in the

fall.

The naturalized areas on the golf course look

great this year. Please remember that these

areas serve a dual purpose. They add great

aesthetic quality to the course, and they create

wildlife/bird corridors.

LIANNE LARSON— Director of Operations

wcccturf@comcast.net 508.888.0793

Speaking of which for those of us out on

the course in the early mornings the bird

activity has been amazing. I am sure you

all have had the opportunity to see the

nesting pair of red tail hawks, the blue

birds, the swallows, and the orioles.

We have also witnessed many deer, coyotes,

and foxes.

These tall grass/naturalized areas are very

sensitive to heavy traffic. Should your ball

end up in one of the tall grass areas you

are asked to enter only on foot. Carts are

prohibited from entering.

As the summer progresses, please remember

that if the turf is wilting out please go

around. We are also asking members to

repair your divots and repair your ball

marks.

GOLF COURSE DATES TO REMEMBER

July 2nd ~ Greens needle tined aeration

July 16 th ~ Fairway solid tine aeration

LANDSCAPING NEWS BY MARC BAKER

With the annuals nearly all in, we are now into our routine summer maintenance. The crew has been busy

weeding, watering and mowing. We are also working on “billable” projects or projects outside our routine

maintenance services. If you have any projects you would like completed around your unit, I would encourage

you to contact either Teri or myself for a consultation. Using the landscape department for projects is a

benefit to the unit owner because of our lower labor rate, and we pay wholesale prices for plant and other

materials with no mark-up. Teri or I will come to you, assess your wants and needs and then provide a written

proposal to do the work. Once the proposal is signed off on we can schedule the project for you. I can

be reached in the office at (508) 888-0793 or Via email at marcwccclandscape@yahoo.com you can reach

Teri at the same number or email at teriwccclandscape@yahoo.com. I would like to also send another reminder

about pet waste. Please clean up after your pet, the mow crew has been encountering a significant

amount in areas and will not mow the area if it is excessive. I would encourage pet owners to be responsible

and clean up after them.

This year there has been a craze for heuchere or better known as coral bells. They are hardy from zone 3 to

8 and they prefer light shade; if in full sun they can become sunburned.

They bloom from May thru July and their foliage is evergreen. The hummingbirds love them and there is a

color for every application. There are far too many color combos in the leaves to single one out .

The flowers come in white /reddish brown/purple/ and all shades of pink and red.

There are many different varieties all over the property here at White

Cliffs. One of the newer varieties is planted at the west end in front of the

new condos under construction.

Junior Clinics

The popular White Cliffs Junior Clinics are back. This is a newly designed program that runs most of July

and August. The juniors will have their clinics on Monday mornings starting July 9 th . The final clinic and

barbecue will take place on August 20 th . Topics that will be covered include fitness, golf skills, sportsmanship,

etiquette and rules. Sign up in the Golf Shop.

Get Golf Ready – The Next Phase

The Get Golf Ready member clinics were a hit. We are now offering “Get Golf Ready – The Next Phase”

later in July. The first phase featured basics in putting, chipping and full swing. The “Next Phase” will take

you more in depth. You will review posture, grip, aim, putting strategy and the importance of properly fit

equipment. You will get more in depth with chipping, pitching and bunker play. Uneven lies, long grass

and techniques to get more distance will also be covered. You will also have some course management

work (hole by hole strategy and risk vs. reward). These clinics cost $10 per person per individual clinic.

Don’t miss out on taking your game to the next level. Check your email for clinic schedules.

Mixed Member Guest

New for 2012 is the Mixed Member Guest taking place on July 22 nd . Teams for this event may be comprised

of any gender. Invite three guests or have two members and two guests. The format will be a flighted

scramble. Chef Beriau promises an excellent dining experience after golf as always. Sign up Now.

June Cliffs Club Rules Question Winners

There were only three correct answers for the June Cliffs Club Rules question. Congratulations to Alan Isherwood,

Bobbie McDowell and Ruth Lenehan for answering the question correctly. They will each receive

a free dozen golf balls. They also get an additional entry into the year end free 2013 Cliffs Club membership.

See how you do… .I will give you the specific rules to reference.

Q. In a hazard, John believed his ball was covered by leaves. In searching for the ball in the leaves with his

club, he accidently moved his ball. What is the ruling?

a. There is no penalty

b. John incurs a penalty of one stroke and must replace the ball.

c. John incurs a penalty of two strokes and must replace his ball.

Rule 12-1b Rule 18-2a

THE LENDING LIBRARY

We've just about completed the recycling process and preparing

to organize into a logical Lending Library. Nothing complicated,

just organizing into fiction/non-fiction categories, paperback/

hardcover. Alphabetizing will initially be put in place and we'll

see how that works out. We'll develop a process and if we follow

this, it should be fine.

This most likely will be more than a one person job so I'm looking

for some volunteers to assist in the initial organization.

Those interested please contact me at smaxmil@aol.com.

Again, thank you for your ongoing support in the

way of book donations and visiting the library.

Thank you,

Andy Miller

playfulness of Ella Fitzgerald. Cadence Magazine has

compared her jazz songwriting style to Randy Newman

(music of “Toy Story”, etc.), while her mellow pop

songwriting is similar to Colbie Caillat and Michael Buble.
