Gas-free electroosmotic micropump
Made by VCOM www.rettkommunikasjon.no
Osmotex M8000 micropumps operate bubblefree
thanks to a reversible electrode reaction
combined with low-frequency flow reversal. The
rectifying unit assures that a continuous, uni-
directional flow is delivered to your application.
Features & advantages
• Flow rates up to 50 µl/min
• Pressures 0.1 to 3 PSI
• Operates without electrolysis and bubble formation
• Compact sealed package
• Power consumption in low mW range
Target market
The target market for the micropump system is manufacturers
and developers of microfluidic technology such as labon-chip
and micro fuel cells. Osmotex offers system components,
standard or tailored, for integration in disposable and
non-disposable OEM products.
Evaluation kits
Osmotex offers complete evaluation kits including
the following components:
• Osmotex micropump with electrodes
(diameter 16 mm, thickness 2 mm)
• Pump enclosure with standard electrical
and fluidic connectors
• Active valve-based flow rectifier
• Electronic control unit for pumps and
rectifier (programmable, with USB interface)
All products can also be purchased separately.
Flow characteristics
For alcohols, the smooth flow is interrupted by a small flow
spike from the rectifier at each internal flow reversal, typically
every hour. For aqueous solutions the flow is decreasing in
each pulse until the internal flow reversal, typically every 20
seconds. Flow patterns for both class of fluids are shown to
the right. In both cases, the pumping is free of electrolysis
and bubble formation.
High precision flow
The pumps can be delivered with a flow sensor, which together
with the pump control unit guarantees a precise flow
rate independent of the work load (counter pressure and
flow resistance in the system, or other variable conditions).
Typical performance of pumping system:
Alcohols / fuel cell applications:
• Voltage: up to 15 V
• Flow rates 1 to 40 µl/min
• Pressures up to 3 PSI (at zero flow)
• AC operation: up to 5 hours pulse length
• Power consumption: 2 to 10 mW
Water / aqueous:
• Voltage: from 0.5 V up to 2 V
• Flow rates up to 20 µl/min
• Pressures up to 0.2 PSI
• AC operation: 10 to 120 seconds pulse length
• Power consumption: 0.5 to 2 mW
