And that’s no surprise, since wider, deeper drawers are a trend that has no signs of slowing. Deep and wide drawers definitely provide an appeal, offering plenty of room for bulky items and more direct access to the contents than shelves, where items are often hidden from view. Wide drawers were first incorporated into commercial and business office furniture for file storage. Lateral files provided better access than vertical files. Today, this style of drawer has expanded into a variety of residential applications such as kitchen drawers for pots and dishes, storage of towels and linens, toys, hobby supplies, as well as garage or shed storage units. Commercial applications include display and storage for retail establishments, food services and restaurants, industrial equipment, electronics, and of course, office files. This construction puts more stress on the drawer and slides, causing halting movement, and wracking (sideto-side) movement. There are several choices available to you that offer a range of load capacities for wider drawers. These slides are part of the heavy-duty slide category, and some will support drawers up to 42-inches-wide. The two we favor include models 4032 and 4034, which have a rail/mount disconnect method and progressive movement. These factors combine for very smooth, quiet movement. Model 4032 has the widest drawer capacity of the two. It is suitable for drawers up to 27-inches-wide, offers full extension, and manages loads up to 150 pounds. Model 4034 carries a slightly smaller width at 24 inches, however it also maintains a load of 150 pounds, while also offering 1.5 inches of over travel. This additional extension provides complete access to the contents of a drawer, which is particularly helpful when used for files or contents that are organized in compartments. 3600 Slides These products were originally designed for office furniture. They offer low to mid-range load capacities for drawers up to 42-incheswide. Constructed with a unique handed rail with bayonets that seat into pockets on the drawer member, the user simply lifts the drawer to remove it from the cabinet.
Model 3640A carries loads up to 200 pounds and provides 1 inch of over travel. It is available in clear zinc or black (for that decorator touch!), and it is BHMA certified for Grades 1HD-100 and 1HD-200. Model 3641 has a unique interlock feature, which prevents more than one drawer from opening at a time. This important attribute renders this slide a frequent choice for heavy, multi-drawer cabinets found in commercial and public sector projects. Model 3641 is compatible with central locking systems, used to control access or secure contents. The load capacity is 180 pounds and finishes include zinc and black. 7900 Slides These two products provide a middle load-range solution of up to 350 pounds. Both carry drawers up to 42-inches-wide and offer full extension travel. Model 7957 has a handed lever disconnect, while model 7950 does not offer a disconnect method. Slides without a disconnect method are a good choice for situations where drawer removal might present a hazard. 9301 Models 3640A and 9301 are BHMA Certified. This product carries the heaviest load rating of the group at 400 pounds in drawers up to 42-inches-wide. This load rating is based on drawers that are subjected to frequent use. Full extension, quiet operation, and exceptional durability are the outstanding features of this workhorse slide. Model 9301 is also BHMA certified for Grades 1HD-100 and 1HD-200.
