The Accuride Advantage:
Hidden Resources
... at the end of the process, the product had become
something very different from what was initially
presented...
This is a common occurrence when we work with clients to solve a specific
problem. As the project is fully explored, engineering and sales work together to
adjust, alter, refine, or change attributes of the product until a solution is achieved.
This can be an interesting discovery process that can take us to unexpected places
in product development—new methods, new materials, or new designs. It may
involve taking a feature from one slide and adding it to another; or modifying a
feature to do more—or less—than originally intended.
Sometimes the solution is relatively simple, such as adding or moving a hole, or
crimping a slide member to create a detent. Occasionally, solutions are achieved
with existing tooling. However, in other situations, changes may become
complicated and costly. That is where Accuride excels: assessing projects to
determine whether there is a solution that is cost-effective and practical for all
concerned.
The bottom line—if you have a project that has a specific need—don’t discount
that need at first glance. Talk to your Accuride rep. Perhaps, there is a simple and
affordable solution. Remember, Accuride has a global network of resources with
a wealth of experience in fabrication and manufacturing at your disposal to solve
design challenges.
One of the advantages offered by Accuride is the collaborative aspect of our services.
We love a challenge and thrive on problem solving. From Engineering to Sales to
Manufacturing, all our teams enjoy using their technological and creative abilities to
search out the answers for customers.
What you may not know, is that Accuride has a world of custom features in our bag
‘o tricks accumulated through years of working on OEM projects. But, we have to be
practical; customized features are more likely an option for larger projects where the
economies of scale can be recognized. Higher volumes give us the flexibility to offer our
customers an expanded set of options.
Recently, Accuride introduced a concept locking mechanism to a handful of customers
identified by our distributors, who might have a potential need for such a device. What
those involved found most interesting, was that at the end of the process, for each,
the product had become something very different from what was initially presented by
our Engineering team. The final solution
answered some very specific challenges
Locking Up a Secure Opportunity
faced by the customer.
Security is a hot topic, particularly in medical facilities when it comes to housing a variety of sensitive
supplies from syringes to sedatives. Authorized access—and tracking that access—can be critical in
many situations.
The locking mechanism concept product mentioned in this article may be of interest to you and your
clients. However, it is not readily available through a distributor; it is a concept product awaiting
the right circumstances. It could be a potential solution for firms managing large-scale hospital or
institutional design projects; firms who specialize in this type of design; or other projects that have an
ongoing need for some type of electronic locking device.
If you would like to discuss your project needs and determine if the potential volumes qualify for a
partnership development of this product, contact our Marketing Architectural Coordinator, Christina
Alfaro by e-mail at archinfo@accuride.com or call 888-459-8624.
