Page County has ‘fun on every level’ , from the 

breathtaking vistas provided from the Blue Ridge and Massanutten 

Mountain ranges, to the celebrated Shenandoah River that bisects 

the county and down to the underground wonder of Luray 

Caverns. 

With more than 250 cabins and country homes in Page County, 

we officially became Virginia’s ‘Cabin Capital’ in 2009. Each cabin 

is unique, offering a variety of locations, amenities and capacity.

Take in the beauty of Page County, which has become a 

sportsman’s playground. From fishing and hunting to cycling, 

hiking and canoeing, the beauty of our county only adds to the 

excitement of any activity. Several cycling events, including the 

Tour of Page County, along with the Luray International Triathlon, 

have made us an ‘adventure sports’ destination. 

Visual and performing arts are well represented, with music, 

theater, dance and choral productions in several venues. Enjoy

Luray Visitor Center Train Depot and Museum was 

chosen as ‘Best Historic Preservation’ in the Valley Conservation 

Council 2011 Better Models 

for Development Awards. The 

restored train depot is home to 

the Luray-Page County Chamber 

of Commerce and Visitor Center 

as well as the Luray Downtown 

Initiative. The former Norfolk 

& Western passenger station 

represents Luray’s prosperous railroad era of the late nineteenth

2011 at the Chamber, celebrates what 

is locally grown and produced. Our

school nutritionist, beekeepers, winery

Destination Weddings TLC Network chose Luray as its No. 2

dairy goat farm, the underground Luray Caverns, a scenic scenery

The American Civil War Sesquicentennial marks 150 years 

after several major milestones, including the 

signing of the Emancipation Proclamation, 

Gettysburg and Vicksburg. While no battles 

took place within Page County, Virginia Civil 

War Trails has designated nine noteworthy 

sites, including two regarding visits by 

Confederate General Stonewall Jackson. To

Shenandoah National

Drive: Our own beautiful 

‘backyard’, we share this 

historic mountaintop park 

each year with 1.3 million 

visitors. Adventure seekers 

enjoy more than 197,000 

acres of land and in excess 

of 500 miles of hiking trails, 

including 101 miles of the Appalachian Trail. Along the 105-mile 

Skyline Drive - a National Scenic Byway – visitors have access to 

75 scenic overlooks, four campgrounds, three lodging facilities, 

restaurants, shopping and educational features.

Shenandoah River: The 

south fork of the Shenandoah 

River flows through the 

entire length of Page County, 

offering a water playground 

for canoeing, tubing, kayaking, jet skiing, fishing and swimming. 

George Washington National 

Forest: On the county’s western 

border, the George Washington 

Forest, extending into West Virginia, 

is the largest publicly-owned land 

base for recreation in the eastern 

United States. It features more than 

100 recreation sites ranging from 

picnic and camping areas to scenic 

overlooks and ATV trails. Deer, bear and small game hunting and 

trout fishing are permitted. 

Page County Heritage Association Historic Properties: 

The Association maintains four properties significant to the history 

of the county. Massanutten School 

is a restored one-room school next 

to the Page Public Library in Luray. 

In the nearby village of Hamburg, 

Calendine, Hamburg Country Store 

Calendine 

and the Mauck Meeting House are 

located. Calendine, c. 1852, was 

the residence of the famed sculptor 

William Randolph Barbee. Though its origins are much older, the 

country store is set in the 1940s. Dating from around 1770, the 

Mauck Meeting House is a Virginia and National

Luray Singing Tower: The 117-foot Belle Brown 

Northcott Memorial Carillon contains 47 bells and is 

one of the nation’s major carillons. Free recitals are 

held spring through fall in this scenic park opposite 

Luray Caverns.


Stevens Cottage and the Town of 

Shenandoah: Listed on the National 

and Virginia Historic Landmarks registries, 

Stevens Cottage is the original office of the 

Shenandoah Land & Improvement Company 

of the late 1800s. The Town of Shenandoah also boasts beautiful 

Big Gem Park, WigWam Village playground, a riverfront area, a

Hawksbill Recreation Park The 

Town of Stanley operates this lovely 

park, offering a large swimming pool, 

picnic shelters, cabin rental, a spacious 

community center, skate park, 

playground, volleyball nets and horseshoes. The facility is popular

Lake Arrowhead and 

the Town of Luray: This 

picturesque 34-acre lake, filled 

with a variety of game fish, 

features a wooded picnicking 

area and a white sand beach 

for summer swimming. Six shelters, paddle boats and canoes are 

available for rent. State/county fishing licenses must be obtained 

to fish anywhere in the county. Additional parks include the Ralph 

H. Dean Memorial Park, which hosts major tournaments on its 

world-class athletic fields, as well as several pocket parks and 

Ruffner Plaza, home to the popular ‘Evenings on Main’ summer

Luray-Hawksbill Greenway: This 

award-winning linear park features 

a ten-foot wide paved walking and 

biking trail, which extends more than 

two miles along Hawksbill Creek in 

the Town of Luray. The Greenway is a 

designated Virginia Birding and Wildlife Trail and an Urban Wildlife 

Corridor. The Greenway Foundation is charged with preserving

Shenandoah Speedway: Enjoy 

several divisions of auto racing 

competition, including Motocross, Late 

Models, Street Stocks, Legends, Ucars 

and MiniCups. Featuring a 3/8-mile oval
