The Maryland Board of Physicians (“the Board”) met Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. with the

CHAIR’S CALL TO ORDER/REPORT
Noting a quorum of the Board Dr. Mathias, Chair called the meeting to order at 3:06 p.m.
The 2013 legislative session has begun. Dr. Mathias invited Board members to participate in reviewing
the first readers of daily legislative bills. An Ad hoc Legislative Committee will be established to read the
bills and send a response to Dr. Koya. It was noted a response was due within 48 hours. Board members
may be asked to testify in Annapolis on specific bills. Dr. Mathias thanked the Board members for their
contributions.
EXECUTIVE REPORT
Carole Catalfo, Executive Director, reported the following action items:
Legislation- Members who signed up for the Ad hoc Legislative Committee and the Executive Committee
members will begin receiving bills for review tomorrow.
Sunset Hearing- The Board's legislative hearing for the Sunset bill will be held on January 30, 2013.
Members were encouraged to call or email Ms. Catalfo if they had any questions.
Ms. Catalfo, Dr. Henderson, and staff met with Senator Carter Conway to discuss the Board's progress,
the number of the sunset recommendations completed, as well as the need for a new computer system.
The new IT system will provide more flexibility and valuable data which is easy to track
Newsletter- The Board has begun distributing its newsletter electronically. Beginning this quarter, an
email was sent out to licensee’s providing the link to the website to the newsletter. If needed,
practitioners may request a hard copy be mailed. There was discussion as to whether to include this
question as part of the renewal process.
EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE REPORT- Dr. Henderson stated the Dashboard Committee is now the
Executive Committee. Minutes from their meetings are available for Board members and will be
provided in the Board books. Gene Ransom, Chief Executive Officer, Med Chi was in attendance at the
January meeting.
POLICY- Current plans for the legislative session and procedure for tracking bills and establishing the
Board's position on different issues was reported by Dr. Yemisi Koya, Manager of Communications,
Education, & Policy.
ACTION AGENDA

On a motion made by Dr. Knipp, and seconded by Ms. Contee, the Board voted unanimously to
APPROVE the following lists of physicians for licensure and reinstatement.
The following physicians have been issued a medical license and are being presented to the Board for
ratification.

BOARD VOTE TO CLOSE SESSION
CLOSED SESSION: “Pursuant to Maryland State Government Annotated §10-501 et. seq., on a
motion made by Mr. Lerner, and seconded by Dr. Knipp, the Board unanimously voted to close its
meeting on January 23, 2013 at 9:45 AM, in rooms 108/109 for the purpose of complying with the
Maryland Medical Practice Act that prevents public disclosures about particular proceedings or
matters. Pursuant to Md. Hth. Occ. Ann. 14-411 (a) and (b), the Board is prohibited from disclosing
any information contained in a proceeding record or file of the
