Historic FAW Memoir to be published Colleen Parker Treasured manuscript found It is always my pleasure as part of my FAW Secretarial duties to help people who contact us looking for support with their projects. Many have simple enquiries regarding finding Literary Agents, publishing opportunities, manuscript assessments etc. However, one exciting enquiry late last year, which initially came through our President, Trevar Langlands, was from Kathy Berryman who asked if the FAW would be interested in looking at a longlost manuscript that she and her sister possessed which was written by Marjorie Quinn in circa 1966. Trevar invited Kathy to one of our Management Committee meetings and to say we were stunned at the treasure displayed before us would Kathy and Trevar inspect the manuscript Marjorie Quinn 1889-1972 be an understatement. The bulky, carboncopied manuscript with a cardboard cover wrapped in calico and ‘sewn’ with safety pins was as exciting to behold as any artefact found in a dusty, tattered state anywhere in the world. Beginnings of the Fellowship To explain the relevance to those newer members we have or those who have not read Dream At A Graveside (the history of the FAW compiled and edited by Len Fox), Marjorie Quinn was our first Hon. Secretary. On 8th December 1928 it was reported in The Sydney Morning Herald that a literary organisation had been formed in Sydney, under the title of the Fellowship of Australian Writers. There are a number of writers deserved to be honoured as pioneers and founders but there is general agreement that foremost among them were two writers, Mary Gilmore and Marjorie’s uncle, Roderic Quinn.
