Message from Arnold Asham

Asham Stomper’s Mission: 

Hi Folks, 

Congratulations Arnold. I have just retired from the grand old game. I tried to win the 

Biggest Bonspiel in the world for 38 years without success. Once I was in a playoff 

for the aggregate but lost. I think that was in the seventies with Billy Walch Jr. We 

lost to John Bubbs. Finally, in 2008 (with my son, no less) we won 17 games against 

only one loss to claim the last Grand Aggregate of the MCA Bonspiel with over 400 

teams. Although I had been to about twenty provincial championships, a mixed 

national, a brier as a coach, and a world championship as a coach, and God only 

knows how many world curling tour events and championships, it was nice for me 

because I had tried for 38 years in a row without winning, so I have officially retired 

and did not enter the bonspiel this year. 

I want to officially thank all (I mean most) of the wonderful players who I was blessed 

to have the opportunity to play with and all the players I have had an opportunity to 

play against. All you guys out there working so damn hard to be good is what makes 

this game so much fun. A special thanks to Nathan. Nate, you are a great player. 

Now the curling supply business! Retiring? Hell no. This will just give me an 

opportunity to develop the product I have had in my head that should have been 

done a long time ago. For example, the Rotator sole that is now the only way to go 

was in my mind for probably 7 or 8 years before I finally found the time to patent 

it and develop it. Well I have had a broom line in my mind that will be far superior 

to anything on the market today for the last 3 or 4 years that we will now have on 

the market this fall. As a matter of fact, the brooms may be too good. Two good 

sweepers may not be able to use them for a whole game without breaking down the 

ice surface. We may again change the rules of the game with our superior product. 

Anyway they are going to be terrific, just like all the other Asham product. The Teflon 

Ring Disk has been so successful, we are also going to have a ring disk in stainless 

steel. The molds are being made as we speak, thanks to Amanda my oldest 

daughter. She has a real knack for getting things done. If something is urgent, talk to 

Amanda, she will make it happen. 

The thing that we are most proud of is our “100% satisfaction guaranteed or money 

back.” I would like to thank the people who have brought back unsatisfactory 

product to give us the opportunity to show how well we stand behind our product. 

This commits us as suppliers to produce only the best possible product under all 

conditions and makes our employees conscientious and accountable. So if you have 

any problems with product my friendly youngest daughter Kate will be answering the 

phone when you call and she will take good care of you. 

And speaking of employees, Asham has a long standing policy in our company. 

“We hire nice people and train them. We don’t hire trained people and try to make 

them nice.” So you can expect only the most friendly and best service when dealing 

with any of our employees. I think person for person we have the best employees of 

anyone in the world. 

I may be out dancing at times but myself, my kids and our employees are committed 

to not only being the best in the short term but carrying the legacy on forever.

The most important thing is that your shoe fits 

properly. Ensure your foot has enough room in the 

toe box. There should be about a half inch between 

your toes and the end of the shoe. The shoe should 

be wide enough in the toe that your toes can move 

freely. Your heel should not slip, and the shoe should 

not pinch or bind, especially across the arch or ball 

of your foot. Also, be sure to wear the same socks 

you curl in. This can make a huge difference in 

how the shoe fits. Try on both shoes. Your feet may 

not be the same size. If you have any questions 

regarding our shoes please call us. Our goal is to

Just when I thought I had my Asham Slam shoes exactly where I wanted them, out 

comes Asham’s new ringer disk. I always give Asham’s new ideas a try, because so 

many have offered me such a vast improvement. But I didn’t think I could improve on 

what I already had worked out with my Slam’s. 

But from the fi rst slide, I knew this new ringer disk was a winner. So straight and balanced. 

And the speed was perfect. I couldn’t believe how much straighter this slider 

was from my current set-up, especially since I was already so happy. 

That is one of the best things about Asham’s Slam shoes. With the Velcro attaching 

system, you can throw on a new disc in a matter of seconds. Who else can offer that? 

You just can’t beat it. 

This slider is so straight, so good, it’s almost like cheating. To those out there who

When sweeping on frosty or fresh ice you will notice there is snow or frost around the 

outside edge of your brush pad. Obviously it is the edges picking up frost. This grooved pad 

is designed to have more edges to pick up more frost and will therefore be more effective on 

frosty ice. 


Asham Rectangular Horsehair Pad 

This horsehair head is effective on frosty ice. It does not hold dirt and is easier to push than 

the synthetic heads.
