humid i.e. tropical to subtropical type climate. The<br />
Sarbhog soil is of podozolic type formed under relatively<br />
temperate conditions indicating that the time when<br />
Sarbhog sediments were deposited, both temperature <strong>and</strong><br />
humidity had decreased effectively. Thus, these Quaternary<br />
deposits record the fluctuations in the climatic regime<br />
during the post-glacial times.<br />

The Older Alluvium (Kaklung/Chapar formation)<br />
is exposed near the hills of the granite (Precambrian) in<br />
the southern side <strong>and</strong> as river terrace close to the<br />
Himalayan foothills in the northern side. The Younger<br />
Alluvium {Hauli & Recent (Barpeta) Formations} is exposed<br />
along the present course of Brahmaputra River.
