Congratulations to Paul & Rachael Gillette who
took Atlantic Union to the Maxine Championship
Win. It was also nice to have Doug Samson there
to help present the trophy, which was named for his
mother. Good racing by Triptonite and Radio Flyer in
Spinnaker A, with Mike Beard in Kanaloa winning the Spinnaker B
Class. The Non Spinnaker Class Maxine Trophy was won by Sunset
Raider with Tom Elliot’s Dream Maker in second.
PYC CHALLENGE CUP TEAM
PYC has selected a terrifi c Challenge Cup team to represent the
Club at the June 19 through 21 competition at Gulfport. Our A boat
is Black Ice, skippered by Rick Zurn and JP Nolls, B boat, Rooster,
skippered by Hunter Riddle, C boat, Radio Flyer, skippered by Neil
McMillan and D boat, Average White Boat, skippered by Tim Dunton
and Susan McKinnon. Paul Gillette will help organize our team
and again provide us with great shore logistics. As Fleet Captain, I’ll
Captain the team and try to stay out of their way, and let PYC’s team
do their winning on the water.
APRIL RACING ACTIVITIES
In April PYC was busy hosting the Corsair Nationals to determine
the best of the multihull. Bert Rice chaired the Regatta and sailed as
well. Betsy Moraski and her Race Committee team provided support
for the week long racing venue. The Cruising Couples #1 Regatta
followed by the raft up at Ft McRae was the start of fun racing for all
the Cruising Couples in the Club rounded out PYC regatta events on
the bay last month.
Volunteers Needed for Snipe Nationals
by Betsy Moraski, Regatta Chair
PYC is hosting the Snipe National Regatta on June
19-26, 2009. We are expecting about 60 boats with 2
people per boat to participate plus family members and
friends for a total of possibly 150-200 people. Volunteers
are needed to support this event. As Regatta Chairman,
I invite you to become involved on land or water. To
volunteer email me @ topgunu20@aol.com.
The Club will remain open to the PYC membership
throughout the week with hopefully a minimum of
inconvenience. However, the member parking lot will
be roped off for boat parking, as it was for the Thistle
Regatta. Please frequent the Club that week and help
us show the Snipe sailors our special brand of “Southern
Hospitality”.
