Implementing Environmental Communication Teaching with Students Who Use Augmentative<br />

and Alternative Communication. A series of five, day-long workshops conducted under the<br />

joint support of the research grant received from the U. S. Department of <strong>Education</strong> and the<br />

technical assistance grant received from the Indiana Department of <strong>Education</strong>. These<br />

workshops serve the dual purpose of fulfilling in-service training obligations under the<br />

systems change grant and serving as the classroom staff training component of the research<br />

grant.<br />

Site 1: Western Pennsylvania Instructional Services Center, Gibsonia PA, October 4-<br />

5 1990, December 3, 1990, February 11, 1991, April 15, 1991. This project site<br />

serves 47 special educators, teacher aides and speech-language pathologists in the<br />

western Pennsylvania area representing 16 different schools or agencies.<br />

Site 2: Hammond, IN, October 15-16, 1990, January 25, 1990, February 22, 1991,<br />

April 26, 1991. This project site serves 34 special educators, teacher aides and<br />

speech-language pathologists from the School City of Hammond representing five<br />

elementary, three middle, and two high schools.
