Page 2 CYDFI Newsletter, Vol. 1, Issue 1 Community Youth Empowerment Programs The Founders recognize that only a limited number of youth in Calantas can be qualified for the CYDFI Scholarship Program due to its tight budget and requirements. Thus, it was thought best to put up CYEP which is designed for non- CYDFISP youth looking for better alternatives in life other than the scholarship program itself. The following are suggested that can be developed as programs for non-CYDFISP youth and may be gradually implemented especially when the CYDFI Building is built at the Niniko Village Compound: A. High-Tech/Computer Skill Training 1. Computer Literacy/Basic Skill Training 2. Computer Graphic Design, and Video-Audio CD Production B. Arts & Culture 1. Theater Arts (Zarzuela) & Culture 2. Martial Arts & Sports C. Academic Enrichment/Remedial Program 1. Math/Science/English/Writers’ Club 2. Tutorial/Remedial Program D. Livelihood and Food Production 1. Meat Processing Production E. Environment Protection Program 1. BioGas Technology F. Community Health Programs 1. Substance Abuse Prevention Program. 2. Health Screening & Health Care Services G. Leadership Skills Training NABP Mini-Resort Projects: Niniko AgiBusiness Projects, a.k.a. NABP, is going to utilize the miniswimming pools constructed at the following sites for fundraising and revenue will be used, in addition to supporting the needs of our CYDFI Scholars, as ANNUAL CASH AWARDS which are given during Graduation Day to the top three (3) students of each grade level from Grade One to Six at the Calantas Elementary School: 1. Niniko Little Prairie Resort at NABP Farm-A managed by Romeo/Thelma 2. Niniko Green Meadow Resort at NABP Farm-B managed by Amado/Emilia. 3. Niniko Dream Resort by the Niniko Village Compound. To be constructed! SIGN-BOARDS will be posted as to when these mini-swimming pools will be opened to the public. Our youth scholars will benefit most of your support and your patronage will empower and inspire them to “believe in themselves by studying hard to make their dream come true”. For a young person who is poor but talented, a sign of support and a little help could create a spark of hope in one’s heart and could become a moment in time in his life unlocking his sweet dream into reality. This is the kind of spirit and commitment that CYDFI is established to generate empowerment in the life of many deserving youth in Calantas and Nabuclod Negrito Community in Floridablanca, Pampanga.
SWREM as a Theory: An Analysis According to Mosby’s dictionary, a theory is an abstract statement formulated to predict, explain, or describe the relationships among concepts, constructs, or events. Connotatively, SWREM as a theory, will be viewed according to this denotation. SWREM is a coined acronym for “spiral with ripple effect motion” with defined significance to an otherwise nonsensical term. It has significance in meaning because of the connotation designated to it in this discussion. If you take a closer look and pay attention to the shape of the shell, you will notice a spiral shape with an impression of dynamic growth and if applied to community work could connote development. The dynamism of growth eventually leads to development caused by the “ripple effect” characteristic of the shell. SWREM will be viewed as a key concept generating the meaning and purpose of the Foundation (CYDFI), not only that SWREM is viewed as a key concept but also the very engine to make the CYDF Scholarship Program run smoothly and effectively to effect community growth and development. SWREM, as a theory, has the capacity to keep its own motion towards a certain direction, a direction that can be self-sustaining towards reaching its goal of providing a consistent motion and direction to the CYDFI Scholarship Program. SWREM, as an engine of program model, is designed to “help youth help himself and in turn, this same youth will help other youth to help himself.” This is a predictable ripple effect of the SWREM Theory. It is essential to understand that SWREM puts the CYDFISP into perspective and becomes not only a driving force but the very engine for which it would make the scholarship program work and run smoothly especially when it reaches its level of maturity. Being the engine and driving force of CYDFISP, SWREM will have an apparent continuous motion affecting the growth and development not only the program but also, that it will definitely have some positive impacts on individuals benefiting from the CYDFI Scholarship Program. Tracking the story of the young boy (please, read back page of the newsletter on: CYDFI, The Reason for Being) who got some help to continue his high school education learned to value the opportunity life had to offer despite the insurmountable challenges he encountered in his pursuit to have a better future in life. Some of the principles generated from his life’s experiences are reflected in the proceeding discussion underlying the SWREM Theory and these same principles may be emulated by the CYDFISP recipients to ascertain their success in the scholarship program. The Foundation claims to provide connotation of the layers in the shell as principles underlying SWREM Theory where the CYDFI Scholar may gain some insights and empowerment to nourish his mind with wisdom and be guided accordingly. The following are some thoughts to probe the depth of meaning of SWREM Theory, to with: (Pls. refer to Handbook for full text discussion). 1) I am who I am. I am who I am, an intelligent and caring person, full of dignity as a human being, being at my best self in search for a meaning in life. I am a person with potential capable of doing things to effect the quality of my life. My potential is like a seed when planted in the garden of life can grow and bloom.
