17 Mar 2013 - 28/04/2013

Booking Phone No: (02) 6340 2190

Event Location: 77 Darling St, Cowra

This exhibition is a collection of works that span from 1981 to 2010 including relief prints, paintings, artist's books and sculpture. While her

earlier works in this unique survey exhibition contain motifs and symbols, gw.bot's recent work has evolved from the more literal figurative

representations of the 80's to the almost pure 'glyph-marking' we see now. This is a 'must see' exhibition for artists, students, printmakers

and art collectors as well as the general public. This exhibition has been curated by Peter Haynes and toured by Goulburn Regional Art

Gallery.

What is often referred to as Iandra Castle is actually called Mount. Oriel - Homestead & Pastoral Estate - at Iandra near Greenthorpe off

the road to Grenfell in New South Wales. However the term Iandra Castle is now more widely used.

Iandra Castle was established by George Henry Greene from 1878-1911, and represents a rare example of complete feudal-like estate,

modelled on the English Manor System. It has no equal in New South Wales or Australia. The nearby village of Greenthorpe was built by

Greene for his tenants. Greene pioneered share farming in NSW in 1892, and soon after the turn of the century, the Iandra estate

produced the largest yield of wheat for that time - 100,000 bags.

Iandra Castle embodies the iconic, optimistic image of Australia as “The Lucky Country”, appreciated now by the grandeur of the surviving,

Edwardian Estate.

Gates open between 10am and 4pm and admission is $10 per adult and $5 for children.

Entry is $10 for Adults and $5 for Children. For more infomation please contact the above number.

Through the winter of 2013 Deborah Conway & Willy Zygier will tour in support of their new

album "Stories of ghosts". Conway & Zygier explore the breadth of sound that can be

extracted from acoustic instruments and vocals. The sound is endlessly inventive within the

bounds of real. Their new album “Stories Of Ghosts” is an examination of Old Testament

themes, of existential uncertainty in the face of unchanging beliefs and coming to terms with

the endless trade off that life is full of - loss leavened with happiness, tragedy with humour and sadness with joy. Building on

the acoustic instrumentation of 2010’s Half Man Half Woman, Stories Of Ghosts adds layers of wood, strings & air, creating a

sound that veers from delicate & melancholy to savage & fierce.

Reviews of Half Man Half Woman, tour and album:

“Right from the beginning this talented musical duo, performing together with drummer Tony Floyd and double bass player

Shannon Birchall, generate a powerful energy that both leaves the audience breathless and gives them the space to enjoy

song-by-song their new album, Half Man Half Woman.”

Arts Hub review of The Toff In Town, Melbourne

“If there was ever an Australian act that could be said to have maintained professional integrity alongside lyrical honesty in the

wake of mainstream commercial popularity, Deborah Conway is easily that artist.”

Faster Louder review of Tilley’s, Canberra

“There was hardly a whisper to be heard from the crowd during any of the songs. A rare delight at concerts these days, and I

put it down to how intently the crowd was listening.”

Faster Louder review of The Basement, Sydney

"The tone is mostly set by Zygier's smiling feel for acoustic strings of all stripes: Somewhere Different and Chromatic Jew are

dappled country folk; Agar Rag drips with sepia; a woody mandolin and muted Salvation Army band flavour the contented

domestic waltz, Cul De Sac. There's tougher stuff too: Take Pity on the Beast is intense, existential blues that nearly

overcooks in eight minutes of biblical allegory but the tonally challenging gutbucket swing of Spoken Like a Man may be the

highlight. Far from chasing pop currency, it's mainly the sweet air of another century that pervades here. But it's their parlour

and, clearly, nobody tells them how to decorate".

Michael Dwyer, The Age

"There is an old-timey feel to much of this recording, accented by the gypsy jazz flavours of Zygier's three guitar instrumentals.

Then there is the slow-burning beauty of Something Different. But several songs have that tougher edge first displayed so

sharply by Conway's first hit, Do Re Mi's Man Overboard. On Spoken Like a Man, Conway explores that timeless theme of

why men can be bastards, even if hers is not. But the pick of the pack is the epic Take Pity on the Beast, which snarls and

sighs across eight emotion-charged minutes.

Sounds like: A musical marriage. In a word: Powerful **** "

Noel Mengel, Courier Mail

"They have long been collaborators in love and music and their latest record Half Man Half Woman celebrates their family life

and observes the modern condition with melodic beauty and lyrical acuity. There is an intimacy in the recordings, which

becomes goosebumpingly obvious in performance, with the shared language between husband and wife creating moments of

humour and big heart."

humour and big heart."

Kathy McCabe, Daily Telegraph

"Once in a while a stunningly beautiful recording comes along: Deborah Conway and Willy Zygier’s Half Man Half Woman is

one such offering. [Conway’s] voice is at once powerful and sweet. Less well known is the brilliance of her partner, Zygier,

both as a guitarist and singer. This is a gorgeous album of 12 original and intelligent tracks, both old world and contemporary

in style. This music is engaging and engrossing. Get it."
