The register be1<strong>on</strong>gir:g to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> society is a fine thick volume, bound in<br />
rough brown lea<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r, and has two embossed brass clasps fastened <strong>on</strong> with<br />
vellum hinges, which evidently bel<strong>on</strong>ged to an earlier book. The register<br />
was printed and ruled by-<br />
Wm. NIaurice, High Street, Dudley,' MDCCC.<br />
At <strong>on</strong>e end is <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> / Register 1 <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> I Baptisms / bel<strong>on</strong>ging to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> I Old<br />
Meeting House I Coseley I Begun in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> year / ; and at <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> o<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r is<br />
a l Register / <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> / Burials. I<br />
These entries are by William Allard, Evan J<strong>on</strong>es, Richard Fry, and<br />
John Cooper. Unfortunately <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>re are n<strong>on</strong>e by John Small. On 15 April,<br />
1824, Joseph Maullin, ret. 84, brass founder, <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Ettingshall, was buried,<br />
and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> entry is signed by Johtl SnzaZL, as <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>liciating minister. Then comes<br />
this significant note :--This is a com~zflete forgery by John Sianlej~, <strong>on</strong>e <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> tile<br />
trrtstees. St;zalZ neveu r~gist8red ei<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r bnjtisnls or bzrrinls. John Coojer.<br />
Many <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> earliest entries <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> baptisms, from 1779 to 1800, have been<br />
carefully copied into this register from ano<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r record, possibly that to<br />
which <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> clasps originally bel<strong>on</strong>ged.<br />
The two-handled chalice, 5xin. tall, is interesting, as being a gift to<br />
<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> society by <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> late Thomas Thornely, <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Liverpool, who, for twenty<br />
c<strong>on</strong>tinuous years represented <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> borough <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Wolverhampt<strong>on</strong> in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> House<br />
