The register be1ongir:g to <strong>the</strong> society is a fine thick volume, bound in
rough brown lea<strong>the</strong>r, and has two embossed brass clasps fastened on with
vellum hinges, which evidently belonged to an earlier book. The register
was printed and ruled by-
Wm. NIaurice, High Street, Dudley,' MDCCC.
At one end is <strong>the</strong> / Register 1 <strong>of</strong> I Baptisms / belonging to <strong>the</strong> I Old
Meeting House I Coseley I Begun in <strong>the</strong> year / ; and at <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r is
a l Register / <strong>of</strong> / Burials. I
These entries are by William Allard, Evan Jones, Richard Fry, and
John Cooper. Unfortunately <strong>the</strong>re are none by John Small. On 15 April,
1824, Joseph Maullin, ret. 84, brass founder, <strong>of</strong> Ettingshall, was buried,
and <strong>the</strong> entry is signed by Johtl SnzaZL, as <strong>of</strong>liciating minister. Then comes
this significant note :--This is a com~zflete forgery by John Sianlej~, one <strong>of</strong> tile

Many <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> earliest entries <strong>of</strong> baptisms, from 1779 to 1800, have been
carefully copied into this register from ano<strong>the</strong>r record, possibly that to
which <strong>the</strong> clasps originally belonged.
The two-handled chalice, 5xin. tall, is interesting, as being a gift to
<strong>the</strong> society by <strong>the</strong> late Thomas Thornely, <strong>of</strong> Liverpool, who, for twenty
continuous years represented <strong>the</strong> borough <strong>of</strong> Wolverhampton in <strong>the</strong> House
<strong>of</strong> Commons.
