21 May, buried 26 May, 1837; Fanny Stokes, <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Dudley, aged 64, died<br />

28 September, buried 2 October, 1857 ; whilst <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>re are numerous entries<br />

in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> baptismal register referring to families <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> this name.<br />

James Hancox, who had ministered to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> societies at Bloxham and<br />

Milt<strong>on</strong>, in Oxfordshire, from 1726, removed to Dudley in 1733 <strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

occasi<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>-<br />

his fa<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r dying and leaving a wife and family, that he might be near <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m<br />

to assist his mo<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r in carrying <strong>on</strong> his fa<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r's busiiless for <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> benefit <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> family.*<br />

He was ordained in Dudley, at <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> same time as Joseph Fownes, <strong>on</strong><br />

20 April, 1743, having been appointed minister <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> society-ei<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r as<br />

assistant to or CO-pastor with blind Joseph Stokes-in 1733. He died <strong>on</strong><br />

27 September, 1769, aet. 67. His daughter, Anne, became <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> sec<strong>on</strong>d wife<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Benjamin Carpenter.<br />

One <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Hancox's entries in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Register <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Baptisms is to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> effect<br />

that Berzja~zi?~ Ha?-1-isou, Fa<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> above registered S~Y~/L Harrzj-<strong>on</strong>, 7e?as<br />

The silver chalices, still used by <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> worshippers, were given to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

society during his ministry in 1751 by "Mr. I.*F.*," most probably John<br />

Finch, a successi<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> that name being prominent in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> society from 1722<br />

to 1840.<br />

After a short vacancy, supplied by Mr. Tindall, William Denny Wood<br />

was appointed minister in 1771, and held <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>fice until 1804, when he was<br />

paralysed. Judging by <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> number <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> his entries in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Register <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Bap-<br />

tisms his ministry was an active <strong>on</strong>e. It was also <strong>on</strong>e which covered a<br />

period <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> various notable events in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> district. The year 1782 saw <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
