celebrated <strong>on</strong> 13 December, 1882, at Birmingham, when an historical sketch<br />

was read at <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> morning meeting in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> lecture room <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Church <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Messiah, by David Maginnis, F.R.Hist.S., followed by a public dinner,<br />

under <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> presidency <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Dr. Russell, J.P., and by Divine service in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

evening, in'<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Church <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Messiah, c<strong>on</strong>ducted by John Robberds, B.A.,<br />

with a serm<strong>on</strong> from St. Mat<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>w xiii., 33, by Joseph Estlin Carpenter, M.A.,<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Manchester New College, L<strong>on</strong>d<strong>on</strong>.<br />

The sketch, speeches, and serm<strong>on</strong> were afterwards printed and cir-<br />

culated.<br />

The following suggesti<strong>on</strong>s, respecting <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> meetings, revised and com-<br />

pleted by <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> sub-committee, which met <strong>on</strong> M<strong>on</strong>day, May 28th, for that<br />

purpose, were finally adopted at <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> meeting at West Bromwich, <strong>on</strong> Wed-<br />

nesday, June 6th, 1894 :-<br />

~.-That in additi<strong>on</strong> to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> c<strong>on</strong>duct <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> formal business-<br />

(Q) Papers may be read <strong>on</strong> any subject c<strong>on</strong>nected with religious<br />

life and thought ;<br />

(ij Services may be held at which a serm<strong>on</strong> may be delivered ;<br />

(L) Topics <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> public interest, or <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> immediate urgency may be<br />

c<strong>on</strong>sidered ; and any resoluti<strong>on</strong>s NOT <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> a party or sectarian<br />

character may be adopted.<br />

2. -That <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> meetings shall commence with prayer.<br />

a.-That at least <strong>on</strong>ce a year <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> ministers shall be invited to bring<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>ir wives, so that <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y shall share in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> social and intellectual<br />

proceedings <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> meeting. I<br />

A.-That <strong>on</strong>e <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> meetings <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> year be set apart for devoti<strong>on</strong>al<br />

purposes <strong>on</strong>ly, and that where it may be desired by those giving<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> invitati<strong>on</strong>, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Communi<strong>on</strong> Service may also be held in c<strong>on</strong>-<br />

necti<strong>on</strong> with <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> meeting.<br />

5.-That, wherever practicable, an evening meeting <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> a public character<br />

shall be held.<br />
